Hello everyone, I recently assembled some furniture from the IKEA Hemnes series, mainly dressers and nightstands. Unfortunately, some of them are quite wobbly, even though I tightened all the screws and made sure the shelves are properly positioned. Does anyone have helpful tips or tricks on how to improve the stability of Hemnes furniture? I’m especially interested in whether there are specific fasteners, connection methods, or additional measures that can be applied to make the furniture more stable. Thanks in advance for your support!

Which screw size would you recommend to avoid putting too much strain on the material?

The best option is short Spax screws about 10-12 mm (0.4-0.5 inches) long with a thin diameter of 3-3.5 mm (0.12-0.14 inches). This way, you can secure the back panel frame without splitting the wood.

Regarding the legs: Felt pads can help to compensate for uneven floors. Also, you often see wooden connectors at the lower joints of the legs. Check if these are properly fitted and tighten the screws. If you want, you can reinforce the legs from the inside with metal corner brackets, which significantly increases stability.

Sometimes the instructions alone can feel a bit confusing

That's true, I always recommend reading the instructions carefully, but also closely inspecting the components before assembly. Expanded anchors or slightly bent parts can often be fixed by yourself before everything is screwed together.

I used to have the same problem with wobbly Hemnes furniture, which was really annoying! What helped me was properly leveling the furniture with spacers on the floor so that every corner is stable. I also used small clamp bands for wood joints – extremely simple but very effective! Keep at it, it’s worth it! The furniture looks great when it stands solidly.
