Hello everyone,

I am interested in the most common issues that occur with IKEA Hemnes dressers. I am particularly curious about typical material or workmanship defects, functional problems such as torn drawer slides or drawers that do not close properly, as well as long-term defects or stability concerns.

Do you have experience with Hemnes dressers that frequently develop defects? Are there common weak points I should be aware of before making a purchase?

It would be helpful if you could also briefly describe how you resolved the issue, if possible. Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback!

A common issue is drawer slides that easily bend and then jam.

Usually, checking the screws and adjusting them if necessary helps.

Hello Paulafar,

You have phrased the question very clearly, which makes it much easier to assist!

With Hemnes dressers, I often see that the wood veneers used can warp over time, especially if the dresser is placed in more humid areas. This can cause issues with the drawers, as the frame no longer fits precisely.

Additionally, the assembly instructions are usually understandable, but in some parts, they lack guidance on how to properly treat or adjust the wooden components.

If the drawers no longer slide smoothly, lightly sanding the edges or lubricating the runners often helps.

I hope this is helpful to you!

This is certainly a problem I see quite often, but I wonder if it’s also related to how the furniture is used. IKEA manufactures according to standards, but if the dresser is loaded incorrectly, for example with too much weight in one drawer, this kind of issue naturally occurs more frequently.

I’m curious whether such weak points are also mentioned in official IKEA quality reports or if these are rather isolated cases.

I also have a Hemnes dresser and think the quality is okay, but I understand well that some users get frustrated when, for example, drawers stick or the wood wears easily.

This was exactly the case for me. Honestly, it stressed me out at first because I was afraid of damaging the dresser. But after some adjustments, it was fine again.

I think it helps if you don’t get too upset beforehand and just treat the dresser with a bit of patience. 🙂

Hello everyone,

I would like to add that the surface finishing of Hemnes dressers can also cause issues. Some users report chipping or scratches that appear quite quickly.

This often depends on whether the dresser was further treated or how it is used in everyday life. To improve durability, using protective mats or soft pads can help protect the surface from heavy wear.

Careful workmanship during assembly is also very important to avoid damaging any parts.
