Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA Platsa shelving unit, and I noticed that some of the drawers do not close flush. Specifically, the fronts are not properly aligned parallel to the cabinet, and some drawers even stick slightly or close unevenly. I have tightened all the screws according to the instructions and checked that the drawer slides are installed correctly. Nevertheless, the problem persists.

Has anyone experienced this issue? What are the typical causes for Platsa drawers not closing flush, and what is the best way to fix it without having to completely disassemble the furniture? Are there any adjustments on the drawer slides or ways to realign the fronts?

I would appreciate any tips on how to solve this problem permanently. Thanks!

Oh yes, I know that problem, and it’s really annoying when the drawers don’t close properly! 😊🙌

First of all: The rails on PLATSA drawers are usually adjustable, meaning you can fine-tune the drawer’s position in small increments. Take a close look at the screws holding the drawer front – they are often designed to allow horizontal and vertical adjustments!

A key tip: Loosen the screws slightly, align the front (it’s best to measure the gaps relative to adjacent parts), and then tighten them again. This way, you’ll achieve a flush and even appearance.

If the drawer sticks, also check if the rail is straight and not bent, and whether all plastic stoppers are correctly in place.

Keep at it, it will work out! 👍

Hello doleka, to provide you with some structured assistance, I am summarizing the typical causes and corrective steps:

- Check the rail installation: Often, the metal or plastic rails are not installed perfectly straight, which causes misaligned closing.
- Front adjustment: PLATSA usually uses screws on the front panel that can be adjusted horizontally and vertically. With a small screwdriver, you can move the front panel left/right or up/down.
- Inspect for crooked fronts: Errors when attaching the fronts to the carcass can also be a cause.
- Check the rail guides: Ensure the drawer slides are fully engaged and glide smoothly.

Here is the best way to proceed:
1. Loosen all the screws on the front panel slightly so it can be moved.
2. Close the drawer as best as possible.
3. Align the front panel so that it sits flush with the carcass edges.
4. Secure the screws with light pressure.

Errors often occur when the front panel is mounted too tightly before it is properly aligned.

If necessary, you can also replace the rails or request replacements from IKEA. Good luck!

Remove the drawer fronts, slightly loosen the screws, adjust the alignment, and then retighten the screws. This is usually sufficient.

I would like to add: It is also important to open and close the drawers fully several times after adjusting, to make sure the alignment works smoothly in all positions and nothing is sticking. Sometimes something shifts during movement that wasn’t noticeable before.

Additionally, it’s advisable to place the furniture on a level surface. Uneven floors can affect the entire structure and impact the drawers.

If you feel that a rail is bent or damaged, it’s worth replacing it. Replacement parts are available.

I hope these tips help you solve the problem permanently.

This problem is usually caused by one or more of the following:

- Inaccurate installation of the drawer slides or drawer fronts
- Warping of the structure due to either loose or overly tight assembly
- Drawer slides not fully engaged or locked into place

To correct this without cleaning or full disassembly:

- Loosen the screws on the drawer front, adjust the front by gently shifting it into place, then tighten the screws again.
- Check the drawer slides for damage and proper seating, ensure all plastic components are correctly positioned.
- Verify that the surface supporting the drawer unit is level, as an uneven base can affect drawer alignment.

These steps are generally sufficient to make the drawers close flush and operate smoothly.
