Hello everyone, I am planning to install several IKEA Platsa cabinets in my apartment but am unsure which mounting materials are best suited to ensure a stable and secure installation.
Perhaps there are some experiences or recommendations regarding which screws, anchors, or other fastening materials have proven particularly reliable, especially considering wall types (concrete, drywall, etc.) and the weight of the furniture.
Could you please explain in detail what to pay attention to and which mounting materials you would recommend to safely and permanently secure the Platsa cabinets? For example, I am also interested in tips on specific anchors or screws that work well without damaging the wall. Thank you in advance!

Hello eminron,
First of all, regarding the stability of IKEA PLATSA furniture: these are basically modular and fairly lightweight, but they should definitely be secured to the wall to prevent tipping or falling.
I recommend:
- For concrete walls: universal wall plugs (e.g., Fischer) combined with 6 x 60 mm (¼ x 2½ inch) screws. These provide a strong hold and can easily support the weight.
- For drywall: special hollow wall anchors or metal toggle bolts that distribute the load well. Regular plastic anchors often do not hold up.
- For gypsum boards, using so-called "Molly bolts" is also very helpful.
Please be careful when drilling to avoid hitting electrical wiring behind the wall. IKEA usually supplies the screws for the furniture itself, but you will need additional materials for wall mounting.
If you plan to set up larger combinations, I would also recommend metal brackets that can be used to connect the modules. This creates a continuous and stable construction.

For factual clarification:
- PLATSA elements weigh between 15 and 30 kg (33 and 66 lbs) depending on size. The fastening plan must consider the total weight plus the load capacity.
- For concrete, I recommend heavy-duty anchors such as 8 mm Fischer UX or similar.
- For drywall, it is better to use metal expansion anchors or nylon toggle anchors.
- Screws should have a penetration depth of at least 50 mm (2 inches) to ensure secure fixing in the wall material.
- Using mounting brackets is also important to achieve additional stability.
Avoiding cheap and unsuitable anchors reduces the risk of accidents and wall damage.

So, I have to say, assembling PLATSA furniture is almost like a little puzzle – you really need the right tools. 😄
Very important: Not just screws and wall plugs, but also a bit of patience. My tips:
- For drywall, the classic cavity anchors work well, but stay away from the plastic expansion plugs—they break faster than spaghetti.
- Combo sets of screws and anchors designed specifically for furniture screws are super handy.
- Don’t forget to regularly check that everything is still firmly in place at the critical points.
And a quick tip: A cordless drill with adjustable torque control really makes life easier!
