Hello everyone,

I have furnished my daughter’s bedroom with Ikea Platsa furniture and want to make it especially safe. I am not only concerned about the standard tip-over prevention but also about all aspects that can make the furniture more stable and safer for children. I am interested in practical tips to minimize risks from edges, loose parts, accessibility, and the frequent rearrangement of furniture configurations.

Does anyone have experience with safety measures or know of additional accessories that really make a difference here? I am also interested in special installation methods or sustainable protection options that go beyond the usual wall anchoring.

Looking forward to your professional and practical advice!

I would recommend securing the furniture to the wall using the supplied anti-tip brackets. Additionally, you can install corner protectors on the edges to cushion impacts. It is also important to regularly check the screws.

Exactly! And on top of that, some thoughtful safety measures like using soft corner protectors really help prevent accidents. It might seem a bit childish at first, but trust me – when the little rascals get going, it’s worth its weight in gold! 😉

Also, magnetic child safety locks can be used to keep cabinets inaccessible when storing truly dangerous items.

From a technical perspective, there are several measures that go beyond the standard tilt prevention:

- Use of sturdy wall anchors and plugs suitable for the wall type (drywall vs. solid wall)
- Checking and retightening all fasteners after a few weeks
- Additional installation of floor fasteners or hooks to prevent sliding
- Use of non-slip felt pads under furniture
- Covers for screws and nails to prevent injuries

These measures significantly reduce mechanical risks and can be implemented with reasonable effort.

I would like to add that with PLATSA furniture, regular checks for worn or loose hinges are important. It is rare that screws loosen first, causing an unstable component.

Also, if you have young children, I recommend a space-saving option where doors with handles do not limit walking space. Handle-free cabinet doors or integrated push-to-open mechanisms are suitable and also safer for children.

That sounds interesting – have you tried specific models for PLATSA? I’m unsure if magnetic locks hold well on cabinet doors since they are sometimes opened with force. Are there differences in durability or ease of installation compared to regular child safety locks? Observing my daughter’s everyday behavior is important to me.
