Hello everyone,

I have furnished my daughter’s bedroom with Ikea Platsa furniture and want to make it especially safe. I am not only concerned about the standard tip-over prevention but also about all aspects that can make the furniture more stable and safer for children. I am interested in practical tips to minimize risks from edges, loose parts, accessibility, and the frequent rearrangement of furniture configurations.

Does anyone have experience with safety measures or know of additional accessories that really make a difference here? I am also interested in special installation methods or sustainable protection options that go beyond the usual wall anchoring.

Looking forward to your professional and practical advice!

Magnetic locks are actually a good choice if you have children who use force when opening doors. It is important to select the right models for the thickness and material of the door. With PLATSA, installation is often straightforward, but you should ensure that the metal plate is properly positioned and that the magnets are strong enough.

Additionally, I recommend covering the edges and corners of PLATSA units with soft silicone edge protectors, which are flexible yet provide good protection. This helps prevent injuries from hard edges.

Regardless, all larger furniture pieces, as mentioned, should be secured to the wall. The overall stability of the entire assembly is the key factor for child safety.

Before fully assembling the furniture, check all components for sharp edges and protruding screws. For PLATSA, there are also suitable back panels available that prevent children from climbing in from behind or placing objects behind the furniture.

Additionally, ensure maximum stability. Fill entire units with heavy items at the bottom to prevent tipping.

I completely agree. Besides safety, it is also helpful to make the furniture child-friendly, for example by using colorful handles that do not pose a risk of injury. Additionally, anti-slip pads can be attached to the lower edges to prevent the furniture from sliding when children climb on it.

A practical tip: when you disassemble or move the furniture, always reattach the safety straps, even if it’s annoying. If I had done that earlier, I could have saved myself some stressful moments! 😅

Oh, and if you have a little climber, try using transparent boxes with locks in the existing compartments to turn them into little treasure chests. It combines fun and safety, and works great!

I can only emphasize this. A frequently underestimated factor, especially with modular furniture like PLATSA, is consistently installing safety components after every change. This is crucial to prevent any potential safety hazards.
