Hello everyone, I recently chose the Pax system to organize my storage space effectively. My question concerns the flexibility of the shelf heights: How can you best adjust the height of individual shelves in a Pax wardrobe to accommodate different items such as books, clothing, or larger boxes? Are there specific technical options to arrange the shelves more flexibly than just using the standard peg holes, allowing for finer adjustments without compromising stability? Additionally, I’m interested in whether it makes sense to use extra fittings or accessories for this purpose and what your experiences have been. Thanks in advance for your advice!

The shelves of the PAX system are height-adjustable thanks to pre-drilled holes in the cabinet frame. You can reposition the shelves at 3.2 cm (1.25 inches) intervals. No additional fittings are required. This also ensures stability.

To adjust the shelf height in the PAX system, the following procedure is typically used: - The PAX carcass features pre-drilled holes arranged in a 32mm (1.3 inch) grid, eliminating the need for offset drilling. - The shelves have metal brackets that hook into these holes. - For more precise adjustments, there are no official holes available; sometimes additional parts can be used, but caution is advised as this may affect stability. - For heavier loads, additional supports or shelf brackets with metal connectors are recommended. - In most cases, the standard solution with holes in a 32mm (1.3 inch) grid is completely sufficient.

Interesting question. However, it is important to consider that the 32mm (1.26 inch) system not only limits the height but also ensures modularity. I sometimes see users trying to achieve greater flexibility by making custom drillings or unofficial modifications. This can affect stability and, in the worst case, cause damage. Has anyone had direct experience with this? Or isn’t it better to plan the shelf positions so that the system’s grid is sufficient? Also, how do you handle different load capacities when storing heavy items on the shelves?

The pre-drilled holes are clear, but I’m wondering if there are any tricks for finer adjustments between the 32mm (1.25 inch) increments. Are there accessories from Ikea or third-party manufacturers? Or perhaps recommendations on how to increase flexibility without simply placing the shelves on thinner shims? I would prefer a permanent solution, as I want to use the wardrobe long-term.

I understand that you are looking for more flexibility. From my experience, there are hardly any official accessories for finer height adjustments on PAX shelves. Some have tried using additional brackets or wooden spacers, but these are always compromises. It is important to pay attention to load capacity and avoid improvised solutions that could compromise safety. Sometimes it is better to plan a combination of taller and shorter shelves instead of trying to adjust heights in between. It might also help to use different interior fittings like drawers or boxes that balance out varying heights.
