Hello everyone,
I have been wondering why some doors, especially on the Billy shelf unit, squeak daily, even though they don’t seem to be directly damaged by external factors. I suspect it might be related to the hinges or the material properties, but I would like a precise explanation.
Could it be due to the paint or moisture, or perhaps the stress from opening and closing?
I’m particularly interested in why the squeaking occurs so frequently with these doors and why it cannot be fixed simply by oiling them once.
From your experience, what causes can you identify, and what would be the best solution to permanently prevent the daily squeaking?

Simply put: If your Billy door squeaks every day, it probably just needs a little oil 🛠️😉. Regular maintenance is key.
Here’s how I handled it: open the door a few times, then spray silicone lubricant thoroughly on the hinges, wipe away any excess oil with a cloth – and just like that, peace and quiet. Since then, I only hear the cozy creaks of old friends, no more disruptive noises 😉
It’s also important to remember that this type of furniture isn’t designed for heavy-duty use. So, better to maintain it regularly, and the squeaking will stop.

Regular inspection and maintenance are important to prevent the noise from returning.
