Hello everyone,
I recently tried to finish assembling my IKEA Kallax shelf, but unfortunately, some screws that were originally included in the package are missing.
Specifically, I am looking for the small cross-head screws used to connect the individual shelves and side panels. Since it has become difficult to get the exact replacement screws from IKEA itself (I have already checked there), I wanted to ask if anyone knows a reliable source where I can find screws that fit a Kallax shelf exactly?
It is especially important for me to have the correct length, thread, and screw type (cross-head, no Torx or similar).
Maybe you also have tips on what to pay attention to when buying the screws yourself somewhere else? It would also be helpful if you could share different sources from experience – whether hardware stores, online retailers, or specialist suppliers.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Hello udofu,
I understand your problem well; many IKEA furniture pieces use special screws that are not always easy to replace.
Basically, the screws used in Kallax are usually 3.5 mm (0.14 inches) in diameter and about 15 to 20 mm (0.6 to 0.8 inches) long, Phillips head.
If the screws are missing, you can start by looking for similar screws with wood threads at your local hardware store. It’s important that the thread is not too coarse to avoid damaging or splitting the wood.
There are also online retailers that sell screw sets specifically for IKEA furniture – it’s worth checking Amazon or specialized shops like "IKEA Ersatzteile Shop."
Make sure the screws are made of stainless steel or at least galvanized to prevent rusting later on.
If you like, I can find a few links for you.

It’s really frustrating when screws are missing, especially with something like a Kallax, which you usually want to assemble quickly.
I had similar issues before and called IKEA directly. They sent me replacements free of charge, but it can sometimes take a few days. If you need a replacement more urgently, I’d recommend the hardware store, as others have already suggested.
I know how annoying it is to get stuck in the middle of building—hopefully, you find a replacement quickly.
