Hello everyone,
I recently tried to finish assembling my IKEA Kallax shelf, but unfortunately, some screws that were originally included in the package are missing.
Specifically, I am looking for the small cross-head screws used to connect the individual shelves and side panels. Since it has become difficult to get the exact replacement screws from IKEA itself (I have already checked there), I wanted to ask if anyone knows a reliable source where I can find screws that fit a Kallax shelf exactly?
It is especially important for me to have the correct length, thread, and screw type (cross-head, no Torx or similar).
Maybe you also have tips on what to pay attention to when buying the screws yourself somewhere else? It would also be helpful if you could share different sources from experience – whether hardware stores, online retailers, or specialist suppliers.
Thanks in advance for your support!

IKEA offers replacement parts for most furniture as a goodwill gestureAbsolutely, I wouldn’t hesitate. Call customer service and explain the issue; often that helps very quickly.
If you decide to use proper screws from a hardware store, make sure the screws are not too soft – otherwise the shelf could become unstable.
Hello udofu,
if you placed your order with IKEA, you can often reorder spare parts separately through the customer area.
If you have access to a local IKEA store, you can also ask there directly for spare parts and pick up the correct screws.
Otherwise, make sure that the screws do not have a different cross-head type (e.g., Pozidriv or Torx) – many IKEA cabinets use standard PH2 cross-head screws.

Material: Galvanized steelGood to know: Galvanized steel is common because it offers both durability and corrosion resistance. Replacement screws made of stainless steel or galvanized steel should ensure corrosion resistance, especially in kitchens or damp areas.
If the environment stays dry, you can also use regular galvanized screws, which are more cost-effective.
Summary for purchase:
- 3.5 x 16 mm (0.14 x 0.63 inches)
- Chipboard screw
- Flat head Phillips (PH2)
- Galvanized or stainless steel
With this list, you should have no trouble finding replacements at a hardware store or online retailer.
Thank you all for your many helpful responses; they provide me with a very good overview.
I will first contact the IKEA customer service and, at the same time, look for 3.5 x 16 mm (1/8 x 5/8 inches) cross-head chipboard screws at the hardware store.
I found the advice about material and thread especially useful, as that really seems crucial for stability.
If I have any further questions, I will get back to you. Until then, thank you very much!
