Hello everyone, I am considering optimizing my Ikea Pax wardrobe with custom-made interior fittings to gain more storage space and better organization. My question is: Can the standard Pax components be combined with custom-made dividers or drawers that are not from Ikea without compromising stability and functionality? Has anyone had experience with whether such custom interior fittings can be integrated smoothly, or is it better to stick with the original Ikea solutions? I mainly want to know if the dimensions and fixing points are flexible enough to allow for custom modifications and if it is feasible to do this from a craftsmanship perspective. Thanks for your insights!

Yes, that works. It is important to take exact measurements and use screws or fasteners of suitable quality. The Pax framework is sturdy as long as the loads are evenly distributed.

The Pax series is modular; however, the attachment points such as drill holes and groove widths are designed for IKEA’s own shelves and drawers. Custom interior fittings can generally be integrated but require precise measurements and adjustments to the brackets.

If you are skilled with DIY, there is no objection to optimizing with custom-made components. Be cautious about material thickness and load capacity; the original interior system is designed for a specific weight limit.

Alternatively, special adapters or screw systems can help secure the parts safely. In summary: technically feasible, but requires careful planning and quality control.

Regarding the question of whether IKEA Pax wardrobes can be effectively optimized with custom interior fittings: it is generally possible, and I have done this myself. Important considerations include:

- Knowing the exact internal dimensions, as not every custom fit will be exact.
- Paying attention to the load-bearing capacity of the Pax side panels and back panel, especially when installing heavy drawers.
- Ensuring that rails or drawer runners are mounted on a stable surface, since the original fixings are usually pre-drilled and therefore more reliable.

With custom solutions, you gain significantly more storage space and can design the layout more flexibly. The challenge lies in the precise workmanship and using appropriate materials. This requires skilled craftsmanship and accurate measurements.

If your goal is an optimal storage concept, making your own fittings can be worthwhile, especially if you need special requirements such as drawers of different heights or adjustable shelf divisions.

I can only agree with that. When standard solutions don’t fit, custom work makes sense. It is important to measure everything accurately and choose the appropriate fixing methods.
