Hello everyone, I am currently planning to set up a guest room where I want to make the best use of the Ikea Pax wardrobe, as I am looking for both storage space and flexible use of the room. My specific question is: How can I best use the Ikea Pax in the guest room to store guest clothing as well as other items like towels, bedding, and smaller luggage in an organized and practical way? I am also open to tips on interior organization or combining it with additional furniture or accessories so that the room doesn’t feel cluttered and guests feel comfortable. Thanks for your experiences and suggestions!

A very well-formulated starting point! For the optimal use of the Ikea Pax system in the guest room, I recommend the following approach: - First, combine the wardrobe with various interior fittings, such as drawers for smaller clothing items like underwear and shelves for larger items. - Adjustable-height hanging rods are advisable to allow flexible storage of shorter hanging garments. - To store towels and bed linens, rolling carts or baskets that can be placed on the shelves are suitable for keeping things organized. - When installing, consider door and sliding door options to avoid unnecessarily reducing the room space. - If there is enough space, an open section can be integrated for decoration or frequently used items to create a more welcoming atmosphere. This modularity is a major advantage of the Pax system, making it especially suitable for guest rooms.

When planning the interior layout, pay attention to door and sliding door options to avoid unnecessarily reducing the room space.

This is an important point, especially in smaller guest rooms, where sliding doors make accessing the wardrobe easier without protruding doors that block the room.

Additionally, I recommend using Pax inner compartments or small hook rails for accessories like belts or scarves to increase functionality without taking up extra space.

You can also enhance the back shelves with lightweight plastic bins that simplify changing laundry items and help keep things tidy. This allows the wardrobe to be organized and versatile.

When using Ikea Pax in a guest room, one important aspect often overlooked is the guests’ perception of the room setup.

It could be added that focusing too much on storage capacity alone can be counterproductive. Welcoming guests should always consider comfort as well.

In this sense, I recommend arranging the internal shelves of the Pax closet in a way that doesn’t look visually cluttered—for example, by using uniform boxes or even minimalist baskets to create a calmer overall appearance. Additionally, a clear separation of functions is helpful so that guests don’t have to search for items like bed linens for long.

A question for others: How much storage do you think is reasonable in a guest room without making it look visually overloaded?

This is a common challenge. I often recommend using flexible compartments and open units that don’t completely hide everything.

In a guest room, it usually makes sense to store only the essentials – for example, a wardrobe unit up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) wide with several internal compartments. This allows you to specifically accommodate clothes, bedding, and personal items for guests.

If you also need to store mattresses, blankets, or pillows, easily accessible boxes that fit well in the lower part of the storage unit are advisable.

Additionally, if the room allows, you can create a small seating area next to the wardrobe, which helps open up the space and provides guests with a convenient spot to place their luggage.

A counter-question: How much storage do others here consider reasonable for a guest room without making it look visually overcrowded?

Interesting question that makes me reconsider my planning. At the moment, I have planned to install a standard Pax wardrobe measuring 100 cm (40 inches) wide and 236 cm (93 inches) high. The idea is that half of the space will be used for guests’ luggage and personal clothing, and the other half for bed linen, towels, and extra blankets.

In theory, I want to create the concept of a “tidy wardrobe” that is not completely packed with items but also leaves room to move.

I am open to adjusting the dimensions or interior fittings, for example, choosing sliding doors instead of traditional hinged doors, or even open shelving systems. Does anyone have practical experience with open Pax systems in a guest room? Does it work well or does it tend to look too busy quickly?
