Hello everyone,
some time ago, I bought an Ikea Pax wardrobe with wooden fronts and a matte finish. Now I am wondering how to properly care for these matte surfaces to preserve their original look for as long as possible without damaging or discoloring the finish.
I am especially interested in tips on cleaning (which cleaning agents are suitable), dealing with stains or scratches, and if there are any specific considerations when treating wood with a matte finish.
Additionally, I would like to know if there are special care products recommended for this type of surface or if simple home remedies are sufficient.
I look forward to your expert advice and experiences!

Caring for Ikea PAX with wood and matte surfaces requires gentle handling to preserve the finish. In general:
- Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaning agents (e.g., products containing ammonia or alcohol), as these can damage the matte finish.
- A mild cleaner, such as a pH-neutral soap or a specialized wood cleaner, is recommended.
- Cleaning usually only requires a damp microfiber cloth gently wiped over the surface.
- Dust should be removed regularly to prevent abrasion.
- For stains, it is important to blot immediately with a soft cloth rather than rubbing.
Avoid excessive moisture, as it can damage the wood structure. Special wood care oils or waxes are generally not recommended for the PAX system, as they may alter the matte appearance.

Avoid excessive moisture, as it can damage the wooden structure.I view this critically because matte sealed surfaces often have a protective layer that guards against moisture. The question is how durable exactly this protective layer is on Ikea PAX.
Are there any reliable tests or manufacturer specifications on this? After all, in everyday use, not every spill is wiped up immediately, and water stains could be unpleasant.
Furthermore, I wonder whether home remedies like vinegar water are actually suitable for cleaning, as these are frequently recommended everywhere.

whether home remedies like vinegar water are actually suitable for cleaningBased on my experience, I would strictly avoid vinegar water because the acid can damage the lacquer and cause it to become dull. Mild dish soap and lukewarm water are safe.
For long-lasting protection, I recommend regular, gentle wiping with a well-wrung cloth.

No polish or oils, because I want to maintain the matte finish.

An additional note: When removing scratches on matte wood surfaces, exercise great caution, as sanding or polishing can quickly ruin the matte finish. Small scratches can sometimes be concealed using a furniture touch-up pen that matches the color.
I also recommend regularly dusting cabinet surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth. This helps prevent fine abrasion and preserves the surface for a longer time.
