Hello everyone,
I am planning to install several Ikea Pax wardrobes in my basement room. I intend to secure the back panels of the wardrobes to the basement wall to ensure greater stability and to prevent tipping.
My question is: what is the best way to safely attach an Ikea Pax wardrobe to a concrete basement wall? Which fasteners are suitable, what steps should I follow, and are there any special considerations to keep in mind (e.g., surface-mounted electrical conduits or moisture)? I am familiar with the basic functions of the Pax units but need specific recommendations for securely fixing them to basement walls, which are often rough and uneven.
Thanks in advance!

I recommend securing the cabinet from the inside to the wall using the supplied brackets. Always use a rotary hammer with a masonry drill bit for pre-drilling. Also, make sure to use a cable detector beforehand to avoid any cables or pipes. If moisture is a concern, you should use corrosion protection for the screws or choose stainless steel options. For uneven walls, washers or suitable shims can be used to ensure the cabinet stands straight. If you like, I can also provide tips on moisture protection.
Hey, great question! Basement walls can be really tricky, but with the right anchors, your Pax will be securely attached to the wall. My advice: take your time with precise measurements, so the mounting fits perfectly. And yes, for damp basement walls, avoid using standard screws, or they’ll quickly rust. Jokes aside – with rust-resistant screws and a bit of patience, it will work out great. Good luck with your project!
Thanks for the quick responses! I’ve already considered using metal brackets. Does anyone have experience with how many fixing points are advisable? Is it better to have them at the top and bottom, or just at the top? And how should I proceed if parts of the concrete wall are really uneven? Is there a solution to ensure that the cabinet still stands flush and doesn’t wobble? Thanks!
