Hello everyone,
I am considering purchasing a Pax wardrobe system from Ikea, but I am especially interested in models where the exterior doors are actually made of wood. So far, my research has mainly revealed doors made of painted MDF or other coated materials, but not explicitly solid wood or at least wood veneer.
I am particularly curious if Ikea offers any Pax variants with doors made of real wood—whether solid wood or veneered wood—or if the range exclusively uses other materials.
If anyone has experience or reliable information on this, I would be very grateful. Suggestions for possible alternatives inside or outside of Ikea are also welcome.
Thanks in advance!

WARREN, thank you for the clear statement. But I wonder why this is the case. Could it be because solid wood is deliberately excluded at Ikea due to costs or production processes?
It would also be interesting to know if solid wood doors can be installed afterwards, even if Ikea does not officially offer them. Maybe there are third-party suppliers that manufacture compatible wooden doors?
Does anyone have more detailed insights on this?

IKEA materials mainly focus on MDF and particleboard with different coatings to minimize cost and weight.
Wooden doors are quite rare in modular systems like PAX because they are more expensive and heavier. Retrofitting with solid wood doors is theoretically possible, but since the dimensions and fittings are very specific, it is often difficult and can cause issues with proper fit.
Those interested in solid wood should consider custom furniture makers or carpenters instead.

Hello Tartra,
I understand your question well, as real wood-like furniture has a special value.
Solid wood doors are not available for PAX, as has already been mentioned here.
If you still want the look of wood, doors with real wood veneer could be an option. Unfortunately, these are also rarely available at Ikea – most are usually foil-covered or painted surfaces.
My recommendation: Look for custom manufacturers or craftsmen who make PAX-compatible doors from wood. These are more expensive but offer the desired appearance and feel.
I hope this helps you!
