Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to upgrade my Ikea PAX wardrobe with new doors and want to focus especially on the durability and stability of the doors this time. My question to you is: based on your experience, which Ikea PAX doors are particularly durable and stable, especially with frequent use or occasional heavy loads?
I am interested in both the material quality and the craftsmanship, as well as any differences between the common door types such as sliding doors, hinged doors, and folding doors. It is also important to me whether there are doors that work particularly well if you open them frequently or sometimes rest weight against them.
Thank you in advance for your insights and experiences!

Which Ikea PAX doors have you found to be particularly durable and sturdy, especially with frequent use or heavier loads?I can only agree, this is a very important question that I have often asked myself. At home, I have white laminated hinged doors on my PAX wardrobe, which are great to handle, but after a few years you can already see signs of wear on the edges, and the hinges sometimes cause problems.
I believe sturdy doors are also a matter of trust because it is often the daily use that has the biggest impact. I personally started feeling a bit unsure whether I had chosen a door that was too lightweight.
One alternative I have noticed is solid wood doors or even framed glass doors that I have seen at friends’ houses. These look more premium and generally seem more stable, but of course they also cost more.
I’m also interested if anyone here has experience with the sliding doors, as they are likely subjected to different kinds of stress during use.

- Hinged doors with foil-coated MDF panels are generally less durable against mechanical stress, as the foil can be more easily damaged by pressure or moisture.
- Solid wood or real wood doors, such as those from the framed front range (e.g., HAMMARP or BERGSBO), offer significantly better longevity and stability.
- Sliding doors with aluminum frames and glass vary in durability. The construction is stable but cannot withstand stresses such as heavy pressure on the glass.
For frequent use, solid framed fronts are recommended because they are more robust than large continuous panel fronts, which are often difficult to repair if damaged.
Furthermore, for doors with hinges, the quality and maintenance of the fittings are crucial to extending their lifespan. Regular adjustment of the hinges can help prevent wear and misalignment.

I’m also curious if anyone has long-term experience with the FALOUD or VOXTORP doors. They seem modern and smooth, but how do they perform in terms of durability and scratch resistance?
Additionally, I’ve heard that hinges on PAX doors tend to be the biggest issue after a few years. Are the original hinges any good, or are there recommended replacement parts that offer greater stability for heavier use?
I want to avoid having to readjust everything or even replace doors again after a few years.
