Good morning everyone, I recently ordered an Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet set and now want to install the toe kicks. I’ve noticed that installing the Metod toe kicks is not as straightforward as I had hoped. My question to the community is: What specific steps and tips do you recommend to make the installation of Ikea Metod toe kicks as easy and efficient as possible? I am especially interested in experiences with the preparation, handling of the panels, and the fastening process. Are there any special tools or methods that make the installation easier? I would greatly appreciate a detailed, practical guide or advice to help avoid mistakes. Thank you in advance!

Hello Putinon, great that you started this topic here! I’ve installed the baseboards from Metod a few times and have to say, it’s actually easier than you might think if you approach it systematically.

First: Take your time with the preparation step – precisely measure the wall length and cut the baseboards accordingly. I always use a fine saw to ensure a clean cut.

Next, handling the baseboards: They have a special clamping and clicking system that takes a bit of practice. Tip: It’s best to first ‘dry fit’ the angled joints (corners) to feel how they snap together.

When attaching them, I placed the baseboards with gentle pressure and then pressed downward until they fully clicked into place. A soft rubber mallet can help here without damaging the surface.

And a little insider tip: A few drops of construction adhesive where it’s particularly tight can provide extra hold without needing to drill beforehand. I find this usually makes the process go smoothly. Good luck!

Exactly, that’s a good starting point. To explain the topic in more detail: The Ikea Metod baseboards feature a so-called click-profile mechanism. It is important to first place the molding at a specific angle on the bottom edge of a Metod base cabinet, and then snap it in with even pressure to ensure the locking engages fully.

Step by step, I recommend the following procedure:
- First, prepare all corners with precise miter cuts. Uneven cuts will otherwise result in gaps.
- Check that the baseboards and furniture legs are properly aligned. A spirit level is helpful for this.
- Before installing the molding, adjust the feet to set the cabinet at the correct height, so the moldings sit flush later on.
- Position the molding at a slight angle, hook the lower part first, then push it forward until the entire molding clicks into place.
- If necessary, gently tap with a rubber mallet, taking care not to leave visible marks on the molding.
- Clean the surfaces of the connecting parts before snapping them together if there is any dirt or minor unevenness.

In conclusion: Do not use excessive force. It may take some practice the first time. For special tools, a saw, miter box, spirit level, and rubber mallet are usually sufficient.

Are there any particular corners or room layouts in your furniture set that make handling more complicated? Maybe I can offer more targeted advice.

Thanks in advance for the helpful tips! Actually, my layout includes one internal corner and one external corner. Additionally, the floor is not completely level, which makes me uncertain about the best way to align the baseboards so they fit snugly everywhere without gaps.

Does anyone have experience with tolerances or unevenness in flooring, or tips on how to install baseboards precisely despite that? Should I adapt the moldings beforehand on uneven floors, or is it better to adjust the baseboard feet?

Looking forward to hearing about your practical experiences!

If I have uneven floors, should I adjust the baseboards first or rather the cabinet feet?

Both. Start by adjusting the cabinet feet to ensure the base is level. After that, you can work on the baseboards without any issues. For any unevenness along the baseboards themselves, light sanding or small screw fastenings can help. Ideally, use the feet as the primary adjustment points.
