Hello everyone,

I am currently facing an issue with my newly purchased IKEA Platsa wardrobe, where some screws are missing. This naturally causes difficulties during assembly, as the instructions assume that all parts are included. My question to the community is: Are there any proven solutions when screws or other fasteners are missing from IKEA Platsa?

I assume that IKEA offers goodwill replacements in such cases, but how quick and straightforward is this process in practice? Alternatively, I am interested in tips or substitute solutions that can be done by yourself or with standard screws without compromising stability or appearance.

Has anyone had similar experiences and can offer helpful advice?

Basically, the first step when missing IKEA PLATSA screws or other parts is always to contact IKEA customer service directly. IKEA is known for sending replacement parts free of charge, which usually works very smoothly. It is important to have the exact part name from the assembly instructions or packaging ready, as this is very helpful for the service staff.

If a faster solution is needed or customer service is hard to reach, you can also use standard screws from a hardware store. It is crucial to choose the correct screw size (length, diameter) and head type, as IKEA PLATSA often uses specific anchors and screws that need to fit the fixing points. Using a screw that is too long or too thick can damage the furniture.

Also, keep in mind that some screws are specially treated, for example galvanized or painted, to prevent rust or to maintain the furniture’s appearance.

One last remark: many forums and collections have spare parts exchanges where users offer such screws – this can be an alternative if you need the original part quickly.

Therefore: 1) contact IKEA with all details; 2) only use replacement screws if you know exactly what is needed; 3) if in doubt, better wait or check spare parts exchanges.

That is not always true across the board. I have encountered cases where customer service was very slow or almost unreachable, especially problematic during peak seasons like just before Christmas.

Also, the statement that hardware store screws are an adequate substitute should be viewed more critically. IKEA often uses systematic connection points designed for a specific screw thread or even possible anchoring in plastic components. A random screw replacement can fail completely in terms of logic and load transfer, especially since IKEA furniture is often modular and stability depends on precisely fitting screws.

In my opinion, you should first carefully analyze the screw sizes and mechanical function before simply relying on replacement parts.

Additionally, there is the question: Are there alternative assembly or securing methods, such as special clamp connections or brackets, that can be used independently of IKEA?

In the end, the question is: How much risk are you willing to take if replacement screws are not original?

Order replacement screws directly from IKEA. It usually takes 1-2 weeks.

If it is extremely urgent, get suitable screws with the same diameter and thread from a hardware store.

Other solutions often do not provide the required stability.

Here is a brief guide on what to watch out for if screws are missing with IKEA PLATSA:

- Step 1: Check the exact screw size listed in the assembly instructions. Often it will say something like M4 x 30mm (1.2 inches).

- Step 2: Carefully catalog all missing screws. Sometimes screws are miscounted or located in another bag.

- Step 3: Contact IKEA through their spare parts order service – either online or via customer support.

- Step 4: Alternatively, you can take the measurements to a hardware store. They offer screws with metric threads or special furniture screws. Be sure to check the length and thread type carefully.

- Step 5: Avoid screws with threads that are too coarse or the wrong head type (e.g., too large a screw head) as they can damage the drilled holes.

- Step 6: When installing, tighten screws gently and do not overtighten to avoid damaging the material.

Conclusion: Spare parts directly from IKEA are the safest option. Hardware store replacements are possible if you pay very close attention to diameter, length, and thread pitch.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

That’s a good tip, thanks! I actually hadn’t checked the screws in detail. I assume that some of the PLATSA components also use plastic connectors, so the screw specifications could indeed be crucial.

I will review the assembly instructions and packaging again carefully to determine the screw dimensions.

Until now, I assumed that IKEA would provide replacements easily, but your comments about shipping times and potential stock shortages are very valuable.

One more question for the group: Has anyone had experience with how long it actually takes to receive spare parts for PLATSA? And is it possible to emphasize to IKEA that you need spare parts very quickly (for example, by purchasing directly in store)?
