Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the flexible use of my IKEA Platsa cabinets and want to be able to easily expand or modify them in the future. Since PLATSA is modular, I am especially interested in tips and tricks on how to prepare the system so that new modules can be added later without having to take the entire cabinet apart.
Are there specific assembly methods or accessories that work well to keep the cabinet adaptable? It would also be helpful to know which extensions (such as additional doors, interior fittings, or shelves) fit best without disrupting the visual continuity.
I look forward to your informed experiences and recommendations!

For flexible expansion and remodeling of IKEA PLATSA cabinets, I especially recommend considering modularity already during the initial planning phase.
- Use the official PLATSA assembly system with the connecting fittings, as these allow a stable and detachable connection.
- When assembling the base units, it makes sense to choose as many standardized dimensions as possible, so that future units fit without adjustments.
- For interior divisions, I recommend shelving systems that can be easily repositioned, such as shelves secured with metal pins.
Additionally: The doors can often be easily replaced or supplemented as long as they use the same frame structure. This helps maintain a consistent visual line. It is best to avoid extra screws on visible sides to preserve a clean look and maintain flexibility.

A proven tip is to install the cabinets on a level surface with appropriate wall mounting. This way, they can be securely stabilized while still allowing for expansion as needed.
In addition, universal interior fittings from IKEA, which are compatible with PLATSA, can simplify remodeling.
Hello Tibema,
I can understand your question well, because especially with modular systems, it is often tricky to find the right balance between stability and flexibility.
My tip: Use the original connectors from IKEA for the corner joints, as they are designed to securely connect modules while still allowing them to be taken apart. At first, I also thought that more screws meant more stability, but it only makes the system less flexible.
Regarding the interior fittings, you can work very well with the customizable shelf supports of PLATSA. I installed my shelves so that I can easily reposition them if needed. This way, you can change the cupboard layout later without any tools.
Additional note: If you want to replace or add doors, make sure to measure the dimensions precisely – the tolerances with PLATSA are often very tight, so inexpensive replicas or custom-made doors usually require adjustments.
If you have any specific questions about assembly or individual extensions, feel free to ask.

I’m interested in your approach—how do you plan to stay flexible? Do you feel somewhat limited by the existing PLATSA system, or are you looking for specific practical steps to easily connect modules?
At first, I struggled with uncertainty about whether new modules would fit later on. That often stressed me out because making changes quickly became a big effort. A very helpful tip for me was to always create easily accessible connection points so you don’t have to take everything apart.
Sometimes it’s okay to start with a smaller setup and experiment before expanding. Patience really helps in that process.
