Of course, years ago we didn’t think about it or didn’t consider it important to be able to open our front door electronically.
By now, our daughter is 6 years old and will start school this year. She also often plays outside with her friends. We want to give her a key, but we have to expect that she might lose it 😉
However, ideally I would like to upgrade to a fingerprint or keypad lock.
There are cables only at the doorbell, and I would like to avoid running new wiring; this probably isn’t possible with a wooden door anyway.
During my search, I found the Burg Wächter Secure Entry.

It has pretty much everything we need, but before spending 300–400€ I’d rather ask if anyone has alternatives, experiences with it, or recommendations.
Thanks

Currently, Nuki has an offer. I know it’s loud, but the price is good. Have you made any progress with the topic?
I’ve now ordered the GOLIATH video intercom system with fingerprint and RFID and set it up for testing. I think this will definitely work, and I can install it myself. Both the indoor and outdoor units look high quality and function well. If there are defects, individual modules can be easily replaced.
At the same time, I also requested a quote for the Mediator from Assa Abloy. The offer isn’t final yet, but it will likely be around €2300–2500 (approximately $2480–2700) including installation, which is quite substantial.
However, the Mediator includes everything I’m looking for:
- always properly locked for insurance purposes
- can still be opened with a key during power outages or malfunctions in the access control system
- operable via fingerprint/RFID
- no loud locking noises
and so on.
The Goliath system is now installed. The intercom is working. The security module switching with RFID and fingerprint is also functioning. Now, only the connection to the door is missing.
For this, I have obtained a different quote for retrofitting an automatic lock directly into the door. Contrary to my expectations, this is significantly cheaper than the Mediator.

The Goliath system is now installed....By the way, your Goliath is exactly the same as my system 😉 . The manufacturer is Dahua (China). I got mine through the importer Turm. I also have the latest OEM firmware updates from this year, which I would be happy to share for free. If needed, send me a private message... However, I’m not sure how Goliath handles warranty in that case...I know. But Dahua seemed too complicated for me because of all the configuration. With Goliath, everything was already pre-configured.
The firmware is supposedly up to date.
We’re still deciding whether to install another Dahua indoor unit on the upper floor (my wife now works a lot from home) or just use the app on a smartphone or an inexpensive tablet there. I need to take a closer look at the features and speed of the apps (there seem to be several) over the next few days. Ideally, it shouldn’t take 4 clicks before an image appears.
Which automatic lock do you have?

The Dahua configuration was really not fun at first, but we figured it out. Also, I now have the technician’s phone number 😉. If needed, he can remotely access the system and fix anything that’s not working properly (one of our two units had very outdated firmware, version 0.00, which caused control issues, but he completely resolved that).
Of course, we chose Dahua because of the price (less than 50% of the Goliath system’s cost in equity).
In the app (DMSS), the camera image is displayed directly on the home screen. However, I still need three clicks to open the door.
The motor is called “Autotronic” and is installed in a Köster aluminum front door.
