ᐅ Retrofitting a fingerprint electronic keypad lock!

Of course, years ago we didn’t think about it or didn’t consider it important to be able to open our front door electronically.

By now, our daughter is 6 years old and will start school this year. She also often plays outside with her friends. We want to give her a key, but we have to expect that she might lose it 😉

However, ideally I would like to upgrade to a fingerprint or keypad lock.

There are cables only at the doorbell, and I would like to avoid running new wiring; this probably isn’t possible with a wooden door anyway.

During my search, I found the Burg Wächter Secure Entry.

Digital door security with keypad and metal latch lock

It has pretty much everything we need, but before spending 300–400€ I’d rather ask if anyone has alternatives, experiences with it, or recommendations.

Thanks

In the app (DMSS), the camera image is displayed directly on the home screen.

With the tablet or phone locked, do you still have to unlock it first and then possibly tap the push notification? Or am I just missing something?

Okay. Unlocking the phone or tablet is clear. But why would you want to tap on a notification first when you can open the app directly?

You probably won’t have the app open on your phone permanently. So you’ll need to unlock the device first and then start the app, or launch the app via the push notification. I find this more complicated compared to the fairly simple function of the Dahua/GOLIATH indoor station.
I’m going to try an automation app like Tasker.

I understand... but getting up and walking over to the door station is even more inconvenient, although healthier 😉

This isn’t even about opening the door yet.

At the moment, we frequently have the doorbell ringing continuously when our child’s friends ask to come in to play while my wife is still working from home. It might improve a bit once our own child can enter using the fingerprint sensor and doesn’t have to ring the bell as well.

I’m thinking about mounting a used tablet without any restrictions on the wall of the home office. That way, the app can run continuously in the foreground.

@Musketier and how does it work with a tablet and app? This might also be an idea for our new build... instead of the indoor station, a tablet (also running Home Assistant for other functions) and the Dahua app... Maybe you could create something with Tasker, so that as soon as the push notification arrives, the app comes to the foreground.
