Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!
That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...
Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...
The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.
After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.
The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

hmm I will probably have 267 and my room is much smaller. I think I will still not make the cabinets ceiling-high. That’s probably the main reason for the compact look, right?I wouldn’t have said that. Friends of mine have ceiling-high cabinets and nothing looks cramped at all. However, they have light kitchens (for example, the white wall here doesn’t look cramped either), no narrow open-plan space with the kitchen in the middle. And yes, the wide-angle lens and the fact that there’s hardly any furniture yet will also contribute. After moving in, it might look different in reality.

Once you move in, the reality might look different again @Obermuh
Then we'll wait for you to move in and share photos of the interior, including the ceiling height, along with a report on whether the table stays in front of the dining door and how the position of that door works out 🙂
By the way, you could revive your old thread and post a summary with the finalized floor plan.

I have had both full-height cabinets and cabinets that don’t reach the ceiling, and I’m not entirely sure whether full-height cabinets make a room look more cramped or not. So far, I have always found full-height cabinets more elegant, but that doesn’t really answer your/my question.

Except for the back panel, it’s a Schüller kitchen with a ceramic countertop, glass fronts, Siemens appliances, controllable LED lighting, and a Bora Classic 2.0. The back panel was, I believe, from Nolte or Alno. The price was 24,500€.Your kitchen looks really great; we are currently planning a Schüller kitchen as well. Is that the "G187 Glass Matt Onyx Black" front from Schüller? What’s your impression so far, and how noticeable are the fingerprints?
We hesitated between gray and black for a long time but would now tend to choose black. We saw both colors in kitchen showrooms—the gray appears relatively light in the light, almost like a light gray. The black doesn’t look that dark in the light; we even had all the spotlights switched off to check. Naturally, if there is little light, it can get quite dark. However, we have a 4.5m (15 feet) long glass front facing south on the right side of the kitchen, so there should be enough light coming in.
Did you ever compare the gray and black fronts? What was your opinion? Also @Obermuh @shenja

We really liked the matte lava gray from next125 (by the way, also a Schüller brand) because it is very dark but clearly meant to be gray. The black fronts always looked to me like they were already slightly faded... though we didn't look into glass fronts at all.

We struggled for a long time between gray and black but are now leaning more towards black. We were able to see both colors in the kitchen showrooms, and the gray appears quite light in the light, almost like a light gray. The black doesn’t look that dark under lighting; we even had all the spotlights turned off to check. Of course, if there is little light, it can get quite dark. However, we have a 4.5m (15 feet) long glass wall facing south on the right side of the kitchen, so there should be plenty of natural light.
Did you compare the gray and black fronts at any point? What was your opinion? Also, @Obermuh @shenja Exactly, fingerprints do show up more quickly on dark colors, especially greasy ones. However, the glass is definitely easier to maintain than our lacquer fronts from the previous kitchen (also Schüller).
The matte onyx black is truly a rich black. We are very happy with our choice, and it looks fantastic, especially in an open-plan kitchen living area.
