Wolfgang26413 Sep 2014 21:43We are in the process of installing a new kitchen. So far, so good. However, we have a problem with the wall rails for the wall cabinets. Even though we have looked at the drawings several times, we just don’t quite understand it. When I first saw the rails and the mounting brackets, I thought: Great – the rail goes on the wall, the brackets attach to the cabinets, and then you simply hang them up. But the instruction manual shows a picture indicating that you should not just hang the cabinets on the bottom rail?????? What are those strange plastic parts that apparently need to be screwed in? Is there any clear guide on how to properly attach the cabinets to the rails?
Can someone please explain this to me?

IKEA-Experte13 Sep 2014 23:17Do you mean step 14 in the instructions?
The small picture at the top right shows that the bracket at the edge must not hang partially on the rail.
Below that, it shows how, after hanging the cabinet, it is locked into place using the plastic part.

Yes, the Ikea instructions without text are a whole science in themselves....
In layman's terms: you hang the cabinet on the rail. Then you slide it left or right until the cabinet body is exactly in the right position. Then you insert the plastic piece as shown and turn it half a turn with a screwdriver; this locks it in place so the cabinet no longer shifts sideways.

Yep, that's right.
I also just worked my way through it and am very glad that the rails can still be adjusted in height thanks to the great locking washers – the rectangular washers underneath. Once you get the hang of it, it’s a neat feature.

I’m joining this thread because I also have a question about the wall rails.
In my kitchen, there is a tile backsplash on the wall, and I want to install the wall cabinets so that the bottom edge of the cabinets aligns perfectly with the top of the backsplash. However, I’m wondering how far above the backsplash I need to mount the wall rail.
If I understand the installation manual correctly, the wall rails don’t align exactly with the top edge of the wall cabinets but are mounted slightly below. But how much exactly below?

Hope this helps.
