Hello everyone,

The preliminary work (chasing/chiseling, etc.) for the electrical installation has started, for now only inside the house.
I still have the opportunity to consider "important" things and/or extras and would like to get tips, ideas, or suggestions from you.

What is already planned:

- Sufficient electrical outlets (in every corner)
- Duplex LAN Cat.7 and satellite connections in every room (except, of course, bathrooms, utility rooms, etc.)
- Connections for access points on both ground floor and upper floor
- Switches and room thermostats
- Preparation for electric roller shutters

I’m only looking for ideas, not exact placement.
Maybe you have some great suggestions to share.

Thanks...

I am truly very grateful to you all for the many great contributions and tips. The forum has been a huge support to me in many ways so far. Thank you for that.

Shading control is managed via a weather station.
I really struggle with decorative lighting. Window recesses are actually nice – but somehow also outdated.
I have planned floor sockets in two prominent spots where decoration or a Christmas tree might go.

Where will the weather station be installed?
If you have a satellite dish on the roof,
you could use a longer mast and install the weather station above the dish and the roof ridge. That way, you get fairly accurate measurements.
That’s how I will mount my rain and wind sensors this weekend.
The rain sensor is for irrigation, and the wind sensor controls the venetian blinds.

Where will the network cabinet be located? If it’s going into the utility room anyway, you can also run a surface-mounted cable to the heating system there. You should also consider the size and position of the network cabinet.

A topic that has come up more often recently is the outdoor access point for the terrace and garden.

An access point for the terrace is definitely a good idea.
I have already run a duplex cable to the terrace. So the access point will later be installed in the corner of the terrace area, under the awning.

- Cat.7 at the front door and potential indoor intercom station
- Cat.7 for access points

By front door, you probably mean outside, I assume. Is there a recommended height for that?

The mailbox system including the Doorbird is installed at a rough floor height of 1.70 meters (5 ft 7 in), which corresponds to a finished floor height of 1.50 meters (4 ft 11 in). The camera is then approximately at a height of about 1.45 meters (4 ft 9 in).
This is the height that was recommended to us.

Yes, that fits. Our door viewer was also planned for a similar height.

Are there any tips regarding the height positioning of exterior lights? For the main entrance area as well as garden and terrace lighting.
