Hello everyone,

The preliminary work (chasing/chiseling, etc.) for the electrical installation has started, for now only inside the house.
I still have the opportunity to consider "important" things and/or extras and would like to get tips, ideas, or suggestions from you.

What is already planned:

- Sufficient electrical outlets (in every corner)
- Duplex LAN Cat.7 and satellite connections in every room (except, of course, bathrooms, utility rooms, etc.)
- Connections for access points on both ground floor and upper floor
- Switches and room thermostats
- Preparation for electric roller shutters

I’m only looking for ideas, not exact placement.
Maybe you have some great suggestions to share.

Thanks...

Have you considered motion sensors?

Furthermore, I would recommend installing at least four network outlets in the living room, especially near the TV area.
Then include a cable duct inside the wall to mount the TV later and run cables through it.

Speaker cables as needed.

I have three double duplex outlets in the living room; the rest is connected via a switch.
The office also has three double duplex outlets. Cable duct is a good point. Thanks.

Preparation for wiring from the utility room to the carport or garage for a wallbox, possibly including LAN as well.

Empty conduit in the attic, for example for LAN if you want to place an LTE or hybrid router up there.

An empty conduit in the attic is already planned, plus cables and conduits for the photovoltaic system that will be installed on the roof later. I was also considering installing a high-power electrical outlet in the garage alongside the wallbox connections, possibly for heavy-duty garden equipment or similar.

LAN connections especially make sense in the utility room. Heating systems, heat pumps, ventilation units, photovoltaic inverters (if any of these are installed there) nowadays almost all have a LAN connection. Some washing machines and dryers already do as well.

My electrician said that in many cases most devices operate via Wi-Fi. To be honest, I have never seen an oven with a LAN connection. But I also haven’t paid much attention to it.

Where will the network cabinet be located? If it’s going into the utility room anyway, you can also run a surface-mounted cable to the heating system there. You should also start considering the size and position of the network cabinet.

A topic that has come up more frequently recently is the outdoor access point for the terrace and garden.

Don’t forget to install Wi-Fi cables in all restroom areas!

Seriously, unless you have a 300sqm (3,230 sq ft) bunker-like concrete building, in my experience you can skip about half of all CAT cables. Devices are becoming more mobile, so Wi-Fi is more important.

What exactly is a “Wi-Fi cable”?
I only know LAN and Wi-Fi.
For me, Wi-Fi is always a complement. Not an either-or situation, but both together. Especially for stationary devices.
