Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Thank you. We have a similar starting situation. That is helpful.

Finally, our kitchen is complete! Well – the gap measurements will be readjusted in a few months, but otherwise, everything is now in its place. The entire installation took almost 5 months – which sometimes really annoyed me.

Hi Climbee,

Great kitchen! Wonderful style!
May I ask which lights you have hanging in the dining room and kitchen? I really like them. How long is the table?

Best regards & thanks

They should be Occhio Mito. Not exactly cheap.

What distance do you have between the island and the kitchen wall? A kitchen like this is definitely on our wish list for our building project.

Best regards

Exactly. Occhio Mito. We saw them somewhere and instantly fell in love.

Above the table, there are lamps from the company Braga, model Dune. I wouldn’t choose them again. We originally wanted the Stchu Moon by Cattellani&Smith and really regret switching to the significantly cheaper Dune.
Reason: The Dune has three lights inside the globe. If you sit in the wrong position, it can cause glare. The Stchu Moon has an LED “spoon” at the bottom edge of the lamp, which throws light into the globe. So the lighting is indirect, coming back from inside the globe. Much better!
And the uneven interior texture of the globe on the Stchu Moon looks nicer too. But it really costs almost three times as much. Still, we have a bit of a weakness for lamps.
As I said, we regret switching to the Dune and will probably replace the lamps at some point. We’ll see, since according to the specifications, the Stchu only comes with a maximum 1.7m (5.6 ft) cable. We would need about 4m (13 ft).

The table is 120 x 300cm (47 x 118 inches).
