ᐅ Is a "Free TV" Connection Still Worth It?

Hi!
In our new build, there is a provision for a satellite system as well as multiple satellite outlets in every room. Now I’m wondering, is that really necessary? Will my children ever watch anything on free-to-air TV?
My children and I mainly watch Netflix/Amazon, and only my wife occasionally watches crime shows on free-to-air TV.

So my thought is to skip the whole satellite setup and instead install more LAN ports...

How have you handled this?

I would definitely install the cables in any case. The satellite dish can be added later, although nowadays it's not expensive, and most TVs today already have an integrated satellite receiver.
I wouldn’t install multiple connections in every room; one connection has always been sufficient so far.

I built the house without satellite, but with coaxial cable. However, it’s no longer being used because the TV is now streamed over the Internet. I only included the coaxial cable because it was included in the price, and removing it would have cost around 100€. But now it’s possible to remove it if you want.

Yes, it's the same for me. That’s why I’m asking—I might be able to swap the satellite sockets for LAN outlets. In some rooms, I only have 2 LAN outlets, but they want 80€ more per outlet.

How do you watch free TV then? Like services such as Entertain or one of the many other providers?

Definitely satellite. Much cheaper and more reliable than internet. Satellite installation is relatively affordable, and after three years you’ve recovered the cost compared to internet.

We do use satellite TV, but mainly for when, for example, the in-laws visit.

If you mainly watch Netflix or Amazon Prime, you basically don’t need it. Public broadcasters, like during the World Cup, can also be watched for free through apps like Magine or media libraries, so it’s not really worth the investment. I wouldn’t recommend IPTV services either; they are much too expensive.

Our little one is already used to non-linear TV, so satellite TV is likely to become obsolete for us.

The internet generation is simply growing up.
