ᐅ Why does the door on my Ikea Metod kitchen keep falling off?

Hello everyone,

I have repeatedly experienced an issue with my Ikea Metod kitchen where one of the doors keeps falling off the hinges. This usually happens after a few days, even though the door was initially installed correctly and the alignment hasn’t changed. The hinges don’t seem loose or damaged, and I have already tightened them several times – yet the door still won’t stay properly in place and keeps falling off.

Does anyone have an explanation or any ideas on what might be causing this? I suspect it could be related to the hinge mechanism or the mounting wood, but I’m not sure. It would be great if you could help me out!

Thanks in advance!

I claim: If a door keeps falling off its hinges, it is also due to improper design of the hinge mechanism and the materials used.

I understand your perspective and can partly agree that some mass-produced products have their weaknesses. However, I believe this might be more about individual installation errors or material irregularities. I actually find the hinges to be good quality, and the mechanism meets my requirements.

1. Completely unscrew the hinges
2. Inspect the existing screw holes; if necessary, repair them with wood dowels
3. Use new screws, preferably fine-thread screws for chipboard

I will approach this systematically and carefully check whether the holes are stripped. Maybe I have already made mistakes by just retightening the screws without inspecting the holes.

Thanks for the tips so far; I will report back once I find out more.

Hey vin-si, I had a similar issue with my IKEA Metod kitchen! 😃 Replacing the hinges completely helped me. Sometimes, even if they look good, there are small defects that only become noticeable after extended use.

Also, make sure the doors are perfectly aligned – even a slightly crooked door can put a lot of strain on the hinges, causing them to loosen more quickly. So measure and adjust very carefully!

Hang in there, you’ll get it sorted!

Pay attention to the exact alignment of the doors – even a slightly misaligned door can put a lot of strain on the hinges, causing them to loosen faster.

That’s a very good tip! So far, I have mostly checked only the ‘visible’ position but haven’t done a precise alignment. I will get a spirit level and carefully adjust everything.

Or maybe you got the wrong hinge model? Metod sometimes offers different versions, and not all of them fit every cabinet frame equally well.

I’ll check that again as well, thanks!

It seems to me that several factors are at play here. Once the installation is clean and precise, the problem shouldn’t occur anymore.

Summary:
- Check screw holes and reinforce with wooden dowels if necessary
- Use appropriate hinges suitable for the Metod cabinet frame
- Carefully check and adjust the door alignment
- Tighten screws multiple times after assembly

These steps usually resolve issues with sagging doors in Metod beam constructions.
