While assembling my Ikea Metod cabinets, I noticed that some of the doors do not close flush. The edges either protrude slightly or cannot be adjusted to close completely clean and seamless. My question is: why do some Ikea Metod doors not close flush, even though the hinges are supposed to be adjustable? Are there known issues with the manufacturing, assembly, or possible tolerances that prevent this? I would appreciate detailed tips and experiences, as I want to achieve the most precise appearance possible.

Material warping due to temperature or moistureThat sounds interesting; I hadn’t really considered that before. Do you think that slight moisture changes in the room can actually be enough to cause the doors to warp slightly and prevent them from closing flush? I have my Ikea Metod cabinet in a kitchen where there are definitely fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

Engineered wood products, even if veneered, can react to moisture. In a kitchen with changing humidity levels, this is a factor that is often underestimated. If the changes are minor, you can still adjust the hinges. During humidity peaks, the doors may temporarily warp.

If you feel like it, you can carefully loosen the screws a little with a small screwdriver, realign the door, and then tighten them again. But be careful not to overtighten, or the screws might strip!
With a bit of patience, it usually works out in the end. And hey, a little attention to detail is what makes the Ikea hack perfect 🙂
