ᐅ Which tools are unnecessary for assembling Ikea Platsa units?

lebipeHello everyone,
I recently started assembling an Ikea Platsa wardrobe – you know, those flexible modules that can be configured as needed. I noticed that the included tool kit contains some tools that I don’t really consider necessary or that I have replaced with alternatives.
I’m interested in your opinion:
Which tools do you think are completely unnecessary when assembling Ikea Platsa wardrobes? Which ones are really needed, and which can you safely skip without making the assembly harder or compromising the result?
If you have tips on alternative tools to use instead, I’d love to hear them! I want to complete the project as efficiently as possible without unnecessary tool clutter.
Thanks in advance for your helpful input!

In my experience, Phillips screwdrivers are absolutely essential, preferably ones with a good grip.
You can usually skip the small hex keys (Allen wrenches) from the set – most screws are pre-installed anyway, or it’s better to use the appropriate screwdriver.
You normally don’t need a hammer or pliers at the construction site.

Interesting question!
I disagree. Especially with IKEA furniture, Allen keys are often the most essential accessory because many components are specifically designed for them. Without the right Allen key, assembly can quickly become frustrating.
But what I find really unnecessary are those small plastic clips or cheap metal parts that often come along and are supposedly meant to make the furniture more stable. That’s marketing, not tools.
Also, I wonder why there are still cheap mini screwdrivers in the kit instead of just using cordless drill bits. Who assembles everything completely by hand these days?

Hey everyone 😊
I think the Platsa assembly is a fun DIY project if you have the right tools on hand – and especially if you don’t carry too much unnecessary "baggage."
For me, the tools that come in the largest quantities but are rarely used are usually the unnecessary ones.
I find that funny too! Personally, I quickly got a small cordless drill with the right bit – it makes the whole process a lot easier and faster. Other tools like a hammer or pliers can be left out entirely.
And the good old Allen key? Of course, that’s almost always needed, but usually just one is enough, not those small plastic ones that always get lost.
My advice: minimalism is key; everything else is just unnecessary weight on the floor! 😉
