Hello everyone, I’m currently assembling an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and wondering which tools are really useful for the job. It seems to me that the supplied screwdrivers and hex keys are sometimes less effective—especially when more robust tools with better grips or higher torque could be used. Maybe a cordless drill or even a rasp file might come in handy? Which tools have you used when working on your Hemnes furniture, which ones would you not want to be without, and why? I would appreciate concrete recommendations, ideally including experience with specific steps like attaching the back panel or assembling the doors.

A good cordless screwdriver is almost essential. The included hex key is often too small and slips easily. For the back panel, I recommend a hand saw or a utility knife, depending on how the back panel is fastened.

I usually also used a Phillips screwdriver. This allows for more precise assembly of the parts. Additionally, a rubber mallet is useful, especially when you need to gently press furniture feet or small wooden components into place.

Basically, when assembling HEMNES furniture, the most important thing is to take your time and work step by step. The included tools are not ideal but usually sufficient if you proceed carefully. I still recommend using a cordless drill with adjustable torque to avoid overtightening and damaging the screws. Additionally, a tape measure or a small spirit level can be very helpful during the final assembly to ensure the cabinet is perfectly level. The back panel is often attached with small metal clips or nails – for this, a small hammer or a specialized clip hammer can be very useful.

The tools provided for assembling IKEA HEMNES furniture usually include a hex key (Allen wrench) and a small screwdriver. However, using additional tools can make assembly much easier. The following tools seem useful to me:

- Cordless drill with appropriate bits (especially Phillips and flathead)
- Rubber mallet (for gently securing wooden parts)
- Measuring tape and square
- Spirit level to align the cabinet correctly
- Utility knife (for cutting films or packaging)
- Staple gun or small hammer for attaching the back panel

The back panel is usually fixed only with thin nails or staples. Using the wrong tools here risks damaging the material.

Additionally, I would like to point out that a cordless drill with variable speed settings helps prevent damage to the furniture parts. Precise adjustment is especially important for the door hinges; here, a small screwdriver with a comfortable grip proved very useful. It is also advisable to use a work mat to protect the floor and avoid losing screws.
