SesandroHello everyone, I’m currently assembling an Ikea Brimnes furniture piece, and although the instructions are clear, I’m unsure which tools are absolutely necessary to complete the assembly smoothly. Which tools would you definitely recommend for this model? I want to have only the essential tools ready to ensure the assembly is quick and hassle-free. I’m especially interested in tips for tools that might not be immediately associated with furniture assembly but can significantly simplify the process.

For many screws, a medium-sized screwdriver is ideal because blades that are too short can make screwing difficult. A cordless drill with adjustable torque can speed up the process significantly, especially when many screws are involved, but you should be careful not to damage the wooden panels. An Allen key is usually not needed, as Ikea often provides suitable screwdriver bits or keys, but having a set of Allen keys available can still be convenient. Additionally, I recommend a small spirit level to check the alignment of the furniture after assembly – this helps prevent wobbling later on. If you want to enlarge pre-drilled holes yourself, a small cordless drill with a drill bit is advisable, though this usually isn’t necessary in standard cases. Question about specific use: How good are your screwdrivers? Are they suitable for longer screws or rather too short? This affects the torque transfer and ultimately the assembly time.
First, a clear recommendation: the standard tools for assembling the Brimnes are a Phillips screwdriver (PH2) and a hammer. Here is a brief step-by-step guide on tool use: - When inserting the wooden dowels, you need the hammer, but use it carefully to avoid splitting the parts. Placing a piece of cardboard between the hammer and dowel protects the surface. - The Phillips screwdriver helps with fastening the supplied screws – make sure to use the correct size (PH2 as standard). - Optional: a cordless drill with low torque can save effort, but never set it too high, as this can damage the material. A frequently overlooked tip is to use a small spirit level after assembly to ensure the cabinet doors and shelves are perfectly aligned. The same applies to lubricating moving parts: a drop of silicone spray can make the hinges quieter and more durable. Especially for a first assembly, I recommend laying out all parts first and checking their condition before starting.
Oh, the Brimnes is really a great piece of furniture to assemble! You don’t need much, but having the right tools makes all the difference! 🙂 A few tips: - A good quality Phillips screwdriver is essential! - A hammer is a must for the dowels. - If you have a cordless drill: great! But don’t apply too much force, or you might damage it! - Patience is also important, no rushing! Have fun assembling! You can do it!
I wonder if it really makes sense to go to such lengths with a cordless drill and a spirit level when assembling Brimnes furniture? Of course, a screwdriver and a hammer are essential, but why is it necessary to use a spirit level? The holes are pre-drilled, and usually everything fits perfectly. Maybe you need the spirit level more when positioning the furniture in the room, but for the actual assembly? I find that unnecessary. Has anyone ever experienced the furniture being unstable without these extra tools?
