Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am especially interested in which tools are actually unnecessary. Often, you read that you should have many tools ready, but I find that a bit excessive. My specific question is: which tools can be safely left out without making the assembly more difficult or causing any damage? For example, a cordless drill is often recommended, but I have also heard from people who manage very well using only the included Allen key. I am looking for practical experience, especially with the Brimnes series, as I want to avoid preparing or buying more tools than necessary. Thanks in advance for detailed tips!

The Brimnes series from IKEA is intentionally designed to be assembled using simple tools. Important points to note: - A cordless screwdriver is not strictly necessary; the standard Allen key included in the kit is usually sufficient. - Large screwdrivers or various bits are not required, as almost all screws in the Brimnes series can be handled with either Allen keys or standard Phillips heads. - A hammer is rarely needed, mainly for tapping in small nails for the back panels or dowels, which can often be done carefully by hand or using the back of the Allen key. - Specialized tools like pliers or pipe wrenches are unnecessary. In summary: You can omit all non-essential tools if you take a minimalist approach. It’s more a matter of patience and care when tightening the screws.

I would say a hammer and cordless drill are unnecessary. Allen wrenches and Phillips screwdrivers are completely sufficient.

I love assembling the Brimnes! 😊 For me, the included Allen key was a bit on the small side but completely sufficient. I didn’t need a cordless drill. I did use a hammer briefly, but only to tap the back panel into place. So no worries, it works great without a huge toolbox!

The assembly of the Brimnes wardrobe is generally quite straightforward. However, I recommend familiarizing yourself with each step beforehand, as some connections need to be installed quite precisely. Regarding tools: - Allen key: absolutely necessary, as most connecting screws require it, and the included key is usually sufficient. - Cordless drill/driver: helpful but not essential, since all screws can be tightened by hand. I focused on applying gentle pressure to avoid damaging the material. - Hammer: only occasionally needed. When inserting the thin back panels (these particle boards), be careful, as they can easily splinter. A rubber mallet is better than a regular hammer. - Screwdriver: depending on the screw type, Phillips or flathead—but usually Phillips is enough. - Other tools: no special tools are required. A question for you: How experienced are you with furniture assembly in general? This might affect whether a cordless drill and hammer are necessary or can be skipped. By the way, the strength of the connections can suffer if screws are not tightened properly—so I would recommend at least having a Phillips screwdriver ready.

With the Brimnes, you can skip the cordless drill. An Allen key and a Phillips screwdriver are sufficient. A hammer is only needed for the back panels.
