Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am especially interested in which tools are actually unnecessary. Often, you read that you should have many tools ready, but I find that a bit excessive. My specific question is: which tools can be safely left out without making the assembly more difficult or causing any damage? For example, a cordless drill is often recommended, but I have also heard from people who manage very well using only the included Allen key. I am looking for practical experience, especially with the Brimnes series, as I want to avoid preparing or buying more tools than necessary. Thanks in advance for detailed tips!

Can confirm: you only need a hammer for the nails in the back panel. Most of it can be easily assembled by hand, even without a cordless drill.

A hammer and cordless screwdriver are unnecessary if you have some patience. An Allen key and a Phillips screwdriver are sufficient. You can also carefully assist with the back panel by hand.

Thank you for the very helpful responses so far! @Surela I have assembled some furniture before, but I’m not a professional. I’m also concerned about the quality of the result: I want to avoid screws being either too tight or too loose. Could you or others please explain in more detail what to watch out for when tightening the screws on the Brimnes furniture to ensure it remains stable without damaging the material? Are there any tools that would make this easier? In particular, I’m wondering if a cordless drill with adjustable torque settings really offers significant advantages compared to tightening the screws by hand.

Regarding the quality of the screwing: it is important to tighten the screws firmly by hand without applying excessive force, as the MDF material can otherwise chip or the screws may loosen. A cordless screwdriver with torque control can help to apply the right amount of force precisely. For those working manually, it is recommended to use steady, controlled pressure and not to rush. In summary: a cordless screwdriver makes assembly easier and can prevent damage, but it is not strictly necessary.

A cordless drill with adjustable torque settings allows for better control. If you don’t have much experience, this can definitely be helpful. However, tightening screws firmly by hand also works.

I would say: If you’re building for the first time, a cordless drill with adjustable torque is very helpful. It lets you feel the screws better without over-tightening! You can definitely manage without it, but this little tool makes the job easier! 😊
