Hello everyone, I have a quite specific question that’s been on my mind while assembling my new Malm dressers from IKEA: What is the best way to securely attach this piece of furniture, especially to the wall, without visible screws? It’s important to me that the appearance is not disrupted by visible fixings, as the furniture is very simple and modern. I’m looking for methods or special products that allow for a clean, as invisible as possible wall mounting—perhaps there are special anchors, brackets, or tricks using clamp systems? It would also be helpful to know how to securely and evenly install the furniture so it doesn’t shift later on. Does anyone have tips or experience they can share? Thanks in advance!

Sometimes, the fear of visible screws causes more concern than necessary. I used the original brackets for my Malm dressers and couldn’t see any screws, neither on the wall nor on the furniture. It was important to work precisely with a spirit level and to screw the brackets into the designated spots on the back. This way, everything stays clean and the visual appearance remains flawless.

Thank you for the feedback! I’m also curious: Are there ways to secure a dresser freestanding in a room without visible screws? For example, if you can’t or don’t want to drill into the wall. Perhaps using special adhesives or clamping systems that provide enough support?

Freestanding Malm furniture can only hold securely over the long term without screws if the weight is well distributed. For example, you can stabilize the furniture with non-slip foam rubber pads or adhesive pads; these are invisible and protect the floor. Attaching to the wall can be difficult and, in my opinion, risky, as the weight is often too high. 😉

I know the feeling when you don’t want any visible drill holes; that can be really stressful. Sometimes it helps to approach the problem differently: If you want to prevent the dresser from tipping over, you can stabilize it with a decorative element on the wall. While this isn’t a direct fix, it’s still safer than nothing. If you feel it’s still unstable, you might consider actually installing screws at the back – those will hardly be visible later on.

I was afraid of that too. I definitely want a secure method because there are children in the house – so nothing is allowed to tip over or fall. But the idea with foam rubber pads is great; at least it stabilizes the base. Thanks!

For a stronger hold without visible screws, you can use so-called "concealed furniture fasteners." These are attached inside the dresser and engage with the wall mount. This way, you won't see any screws from the outside, but you will have a secure hold.
