Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Hemnes furniture piece soon and would like to know which tools are truly essential for the job.

I am aware that Ikea usually provides a hex key (Allen wrench), but I have noticed with other furniture that additional tools can make the assembly much easier. Specifically, I want to know if Hemnes models such as dressers, beds, or shelving units can be assembled using only the included tools, or if something like a cordless drill, screwdriver, hammer, or other aids are very helpful or even necessary.

Also, I am interested in which tools are best to have prepared in order to avoid common difficulties and save time. Perhaps someone has experience and can recommend which tools should definitely be on hand and which are optional. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I always find it a bit stressful when screws that you want to turn by hand are very hard to tighten or when the wrong screwdriver is used. It makes you wonder if a cordless drill is not just a convenience after all. But I’m also afraid of damaging something.

What helps me is taking short breaks now and then and reading the instructions carefully to avoid rushing. Especially with Hemnes, Ikea often numbers the individual parts well, which makes it easier to follow.

I’m going to take inspiration from the tips here and try using the torque setting on my cordless drill during my next assembly. Thanks for that!

In summary, the tools for assembling the Ikea Hemnes should be prioritized as follows:

- Essential: The supplied Allen key and a good-quality Phillips screwdriver.
- Highly recommended: A cordless drill with adjustable torque to prevent damage and save time.
- Helpful: Hammer (preferably with a wooden or rubber head), small pliers for nuts or hard-to-reach connections.
- Optional: Spirit level to check for straightness after assembly.

Manual assembly is possible but requires more time and physical effort. Careful use of the tools, especially when screwing, benefits the stability of the Hemnes furniture.
