Hello everyone, I recently bought a Hemnes bed from Ikea and found upon unpacking that some important parts were missing — specifically, the screws for the side rails and one of the slats for the mattress support. This creates a problem for me because I can’t assemble the bed safely without these parts. My question to you is: What is the best way to handle missing parts with Ikea Hemnes products? What has been your experience with ordering replacement parts or contacting Ikea? How long does it usually take, and are there any tips to avoid such delays? I appreciate any advice, especially from those who have faced a similar situation!

I always wonder whether Ikea is really faster and more accommodating when parts are missing, or if it’s just apparent customer friendliness. Have you already asked directly at the store or tried to get replacements through the online customer service? Personally, I think it’s important to follow up, especially if the initial response is just standard phrases.

It would also be important to understand whether missing parts are generally more common with HEMNES, or if your case is rather an exception.

Order replacement parts directly online. Delivery usually takes 1-2 weeks. It is best to have the serial number ready.

It is important to clearly document exactly what is missing. The best way is to take the parts list from the instructions and check off the items, so you can specify the order for replacement parts precisely.

In my experience, Ikea responds quite quickly if you clearly and fully specify what exactly is missing. Calling customer service directly, if possible, increases the chances that the process will be faster than using contact forms.

That is really frustrating, but keep your chin up! I once had a HEMNES dresser that was missing some parts, and I reported it directly at the Ikea store. I was able to pick up the missing screws within 2 days. Just stay persistent; they are usually very accommodating! Good luck!

As an additional note: For screws or small wooden strips, IKEA has a kind of spare parts counter in many markets where you can get these items directly. For more complex wooden panels or planks, an order is usually necessary, which can take up to 2 weeks because the parts are often stored centrally or even need to be reproduced.

When ordering spare parts through customer service, it helps if you specify the exact quantity needed and, ideally, provide photos of the packaging and contents to clarify.

Also: Check carefully whether all parts are really missing or if some are hidden in corners. Sometimes there are differences depending on the production batch with HEMNES.

Is there a specific reason why you cannot delay assembling the bed until the parts arrive? In some cases, certain screws can be temporarily “bridged” for the initial assembly with similar spare parts, provided the load is minimal.
