Hello everyone, I am currently working on repairs for Ikea furniture, specifically the Hemnes series. I am interested in which repairs are particularly easy to carry out. For example, I am thinking of replacing or fixing drawer runners, tightening screws, or repairing scratches on the surfaces. Perhaps someone has experience with certain parts of this series where a repair is straightforward and does not require special tools? I look forward to your insights and tips on which repairs for Hemnes furniture are especially easy to do and where you can potentially help yourself.

Basically, repairs on the drawer slides and tightening of screws in the Ikea HEMNES series are particularly straightforward. The furniture is designed so that key connections can be loosened and reattached using common Phillips screwdrivers or Allen wrenches. Replacing the drawer runners is also uncomplicated, as these are available as individual parts and can be easily swapped out. Surface damage can be easily repaired with standard wood repair kits, although it should be noted that the surface finish of HEMNES, typical for solid wood, does not have a sealant like particleboard, which makes repairs a bit more delicate.

In addition to liskar: The screw connections in HEMNES are standardized and easily accessible without the need for complex tools. Particularly simple repairs include tightening screws on loose joints, replacing furniture feet to correct uneven stability, and fixing minor scratches using wax sticks or color-matched markers. For damaged back panels, a complete replacement is often recommended, which can also be done without advanced DIY skills, as only nail or screw fastenings are used.

What I found very easy with HEMNES was adjusting the drawers when they no longer slide smoothly. The runners can be easily removed and, with some lubricant, they can work smoothly again. Tightening the screws often helps with squeaky doors or wobbly cabinets. Replacing individual wooden parts is also doable in my opinion, but you should pay close attention to the color tone of the solid wood – unfortunately, Ikea is often limited when it comes to spare parts.

Adjusting drawers and tightening screws is the easiest. For more significant damage, it is better to obtain higher-quality replacement parts.

I would like to add that replacing the runners in HEMNES drawers is very user-friendly. The runners are attached with simple clips and can be replaced without any special tools. This also helps prevent damage to the drawer. Minor surface scratches should be repaired using color-matched waxes – but this can require some patience to achieve a nearly invisible repair.
