Hello everyone,

I have a somewhat specific question: “Which replacement parts for IKEA Malm furniture are most commonly needed and frequently ordered or replaced?”

I’m particularly interested in common issues and wear parts that occur with Malm dressers or beds, preferably from those of you with experience in DIY repairs. Are there typical replacement parts that tend to fail repeatedly?

It would also be helpful if you could briefly describe whether the replacement is difficult or if there are parts that are hard to find.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

For the drawer slides on the Malm, I recommend looking for tutorials. For the most part, it’s not complicated; the slides themselves are actually quite intuitively designed. I replaced mine with minimal tools and a steady hand.

And: always remove one slide first, then check the replacement slide to make sure everything fits – otherwise, it causes more hassle.

For installation, you often only need a Phillips screwdriver. It is important to remove the drawer completely; otherwise, you won’t have good access to the screws.

Some people play it safe and order two rails per drawer just in case something breaks during installation. Saves you trouble.

One more point about the handles: if the original ones ever break, you can also use compatible third-party handles quite well. This way, you have more options and possibly a more durable alternative.

It is important to always note the part number when ordering replacements from IKEA. Otherwise, the search takes forever.

Thank you for the helpful tips!

I will probably order the drawer slides directly from IKEA and study the instructions carefully. I also have a better overview of the other replacement parts now, such as backing panels or handles.

I must say, it reassures me a bit that it’s not as complicated as I had feared.
