Hello everyone,

I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am about to start assembling it. I noticed that among the various screws and fasteners, some seem obviously more important than others. I would like to know which screws are considered especially crucial during the assembly of the Brimnes wardrobe to ensure the stability and durability of the furniture.

Based on your experience, are there particular types of screws that require special attention to make sure the wardrobe stands securely and solidly? I want to avoid problems later due to incorrect or loosely connected screws.

I look forward to your tips and explanations!

Hello everyone,

I find this topic really interesting because screws are almost like the invisible heroes when it comes to assembling furniture. 😉

For the Brimnes, there are truly "hero screws" – the so-called "Minifix" hinges and the long wooden dowels, which don’t exactly look like classic screws but are very important.

My advice: don’t tighten them too much, but definitely not too loosely either. It’s better to gently tighten them again before the cabinet is fully assembled.

If you treat these screws well, the furniture will last much longer. The cabinet will even appreciate the care you give it. ?

Thanks for your responses so far!

I have one more question: You often mention wood screws and Minifix connectors, but what about the small screws used for back panels and shelves? Are these less important for stability, or are there specific points to consider here as well?

I want to build the cabinet as solidly as possible, but also don’t want to forget any screws. How would you assess this?

Good question. The small screws for the back panels and shelves are mainly essential for the functionality and securing of these parts, rather than for the overall load-bearing capacity of the structure.

They help with lateral stability and prevent side-to-side wobbling, but if they are missing or loose, the cabinet won’t immediately fall apart. Still, they should be screwed in securely and evenly to ensure everything sits flush.

I wanted to add that the assembly at IKEA also depends a lot on the material quality (particleboard, etc.).

Each screw has its specific purpose, but:
- Wood screws hold the load-bearing parts together
- Minifix connectors give the furniture its shape and stability without the need for glue
- Screws for back panels provide additional support against lateral warping

What helped me was to use each type of screw separately and follow the instructions step by step, instead of screwing several in "just to start" at once. This usually results in a more stable build.

I think this is a very good and important question because people often assume that all screws are the same, but that is not the case.

From my experience with assembling several Brimnes wardrobes: the main screws (wood screws used on the load-bearing panels) are really the key ones because they hold the wardrobe together.

If these are installed carelessly or incorrectly, the furniture can quickly become warped or unstable.

The smaller screws used on the back panels and shelves are more supportive, but they still contribute to overall stability and safety.

Thank you all for your detailed and helpful responses!

They really helped me better understand the importance of the different types of screws. I will pay special attention to the wood screws and Minifix connectors, and I won’t overlook the smaller screws, especially for the back panel.

If anyone else has tips for tightening or specific advice on assembling the Brimnes – please feel free to share!
