Hello everyone,

I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am about to start assembling it. I noticed that among the various screws and fasteners, some seem obviously more important than others. I would like to know which screws are considered especially crucial during the assembly of the Brimnes wardrobe to ensure the stability and durability of the furniture.

Based on your experience, are there particular types of screws that require special attention to make sure the wardrobe stands securely and solidly? I want to avoid problems later due to incorrect or loosely connected screws.

I look forward to your tips and explanations!

For a piece of furniture like the Brimnes, where stability and safety are important, I would consider the connections using wood screws and dowels to be particularly critical.

- The long wood screws that connect the main side panels play a major role in ensuring stability.
- The dowels not only help with positioning but also provide additional support to the structure.

If these screws become loose, the entire cabinet can become wobbly. Therefore, I recommend working carefully here and tightening all screws properly, but not excessively, to avoid damaging the wood.

I agree with that. I was initially a bit unsure because the assembly requires many screws, but I realized that the connection points on the large side walls are especially important to prevent wobbling or squeaking later on.

What helped me was checking all the screws again after the first assembly and slightly tightening them. That gives you a good sense of security.

Hello Paneklo,

Basically, the Brimnes uses several types of screws, each serving different purposes.

- The so-called Minifix connectors (often small round screws with a cross hole) are used to firmly join the panels together. They are important for the overall structure.
- The wood screws mainly connect load-bearing parts, such as side panels and back panels.
- Small screws intended for the plinth or back moldings are less critical for stability but important for functionality.

My recommendation: Pay special attention to the Minifix connectors and the larger wood screws, as they significantly contribute to stability. If you have specific questions about the use of certain screws, I’d be happy to explain further.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the helpful contributions so far.

I would like to add that the importance of the screws also depends on their position within the cabinet. Based on my experience assembling the Brimnes, the following points are particularly important:

- The long wood screws that connect the side panels to the top and bottom panels. These bear the majority of the load and ensure the cabinet’s structural integrity.
- The Minifix connectors (cam connectors), which are inserted into drilled holes between vertical panels. They provide strong yet detachable connections and prevent twisting or shifting.
- The small screws for the back panel are important as well, but mainly contribute to stability by preventing lateral wobbling.

A small tip: To ensure optimal stability, make sure the screws are tightened with the correct torque and the dowels are seated precisely in the drilled holes. When using Minifix connectors, ensure that the dowel is positioned correctly, otherwise the connection won’t hold or the panels may come loose.

It would also be interesting to hear if you have any experience with the plastic dowels of the Brimnes – many people underestimate their importance.

Exactly, I want to emphasize this again because I neglected it during my first assembly. In my view, Minifix connectors are like the heart of these IKEA furniture pieces, as they clamp the individual parts together.

Take your time to install these connectors properly and also check the corresponding screw. It should feel tight but without crushing the material. If you do this carefully, the Brimnes will be very stable.
