Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to equip my wardrobe with an Ikea Pax system. It is particularly important to me that the chosen model can be assembled as quickly and easily as possible. I know there are different versions and variants that not only vary in design and features but also in the amount of assembly work required.

My question to the community is: Which Ikea Pax models are the fastest to assemble, and what exactly makes the difference? Are there features such as the type of doors, frame size, or special assembly aids that significantly simplify the assembly process?

I would really appreciate any personal experiences and concrete tips to better plan the selection process.

Thanks in advance!

Hello searvid,

your topic is very interesting because the assembly of Ikea Pax wardrobes can vary significantly depending on the model and features you choose. Basically, simple frame systems without complex interiors and sliding doors are the fastest to assemble.

To explain this in more detail, I have put together a step-by-step overview of the typical assembly processes:

- Choose frame size: Standard or Maxi variants differ in dimensions, which can somewhat affect the assembly – larger frames require more parts and longer assembly times.
- Door type: Hinged doors are generally easier than sliding doors, as the latter include additional tracks and mechanisms.
- Interior fittings: The more drawers, hanging rails, and accessories included, the more complex the assembly becomes.
- Assembly aids: Some models come with pre-assembled parts or clever click systems that speed up the process.

My experience shows that a classic Pax wardrobe with hinged doors, a basic frame, and minimal interior fittings can be assembled in about 2–3 hours if you have some DIY skills. Sliding door variants can take up to 4 hours, mainly due to door adjustments.

I’m curious, what is the intended use of your wardrobe? Is the time factor more important than the appearance, or are you looking for a combination of both? Have you encountered any problems during assembly or do you need tips on tools?

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hello searvid,

I would like to add to Filippo’s response and share some basic tips on assembling a Pax wardrobe that can help shorten the time required, regardless of which model you choose.

First of all: Planning is crucial. If you sort all the parts and screws carefully beforehand and check them according to the instructions, you can avoid unnecessary searching and delays.

Another important point is the interaction between the doors and the interior fittings.

- Hinged doors are not only quicker to install but also less prone to errors.
- If you are honest with yourself and can do without them, I would recommend avoiding sliding doors, as adjusting and finalizing the tracks often takes a lot of time and patience.

Also, simple interior fittings without many extras are advisable if you really want to save time.

From my experience: a classic Pax wardrobe with 2 doors and a basic interior can actually be assembled in under 2 hours if you prepare well in advance.

I would like to know if you already have any DIY experience or if you plan to assemble it with help? Then I could also recommend what is best to prepare or pre-assemble before starting.

Good luck with your project!

I can definitely confirm this from personal experience. If you want to finish quickly, it’s really best to avoid sliding doors because their tracks and the precise adjustment of the doors are very time-consuming.

One more tip: If you want to spend less time, stick to standard frames and as few internal divisions as possible. In my last assembly, I deliberately skipped several shelves because each one needs to be installed separately, which adds up to a lot of time.

Also, make sure to prepare a suitable workspace in advance. A flat, stable surface makes assembly much easier, and having a second person helps a lot with larger models—not just for handling parts but also because some steps can be done simultaneously.

All in all, speed often comes at the expense of customization, which is something to keep in mind.

What are your plans for the Pax closet in terms of size and features?

In brief:

- Choose a small frame size to save time.
- Swing doors are easier than sliding doors.
- Minimal fittings mean less effort.
- Prepare all components before assembly.

Done. This way you avoid a lot of time loss.
