Hello everyone, some time ago I purchased an Ikea Pax wardrobe and plan to use it for as long as possible. I am particularly interested in whether there are spare parts for this series that typically wear out or become defective more often and therefore need to be replaced regularly. I am mainly thinking of fittings, hinges, drawer runners, or connecting parts. Does anyone have practical experience or can share which spare parts are most commonly replaced for Ikea Pax wardrobes, perhaps also depending on usage? I want to be prepared for potential repairs and keep specific spare parts on hand. Thanks in advance for all information and experiences!

I would say the most common replacement parts for Ikea Pax wardrobes are the drawer slides and hinges. These tend to wear out or become loose due to frequent use. You can order replacements directly from Ikea.

Your question is very precise, which is great because it allows for a targeted response. With Ikea Pax wardrobes, it is usually the moving parts that eventually wear out or break. Specifically:
- The drawer runners, especially under heavy loads, suffer from stress; the rollers or sliding rails can become stiff due to dirt or material fatigue.
- The door hinges, which undergo significant strain through frequent use, may loosen or bend over time.
- Connecting elements like cam locks or dowels can be damaged by incorrect assembly or may come loose with time.

How often and how heavily the wardrobes are used is important. But also moving or frequent assembly and disassembly significantly affect the lifespan of the components.

If you like, you can also tell me how intensively your wardrobe is used (e.g., many drawers, doors opened often), and I can give you more specific advice on maintenance.

That’s an important point, thank you. My cabinet has several drawers, is used daily, and stays in a fixed location. I don’t expect any moves. In that case, could you advise which spare parts I should have on hand first? Would it make sense to keep a small collection of spares, or not really?

Basically, it is wise to keep a small stock of frequently replaceable spare parts on hand. Especially for Ikea Pax wardrobes, which are modular and regularly used, there are some components that tend to become weak spots over time:

- Hinge springs or entire hinges: These are made of metal and often provide the spring action when opening the door; over time they lose tension or become bent.
- Drawer slides: In particular, the tracks with ball bearings or rollers can wear out. If a drawer sticks, a slide is likely defective.
- Snap-on connectors between the wooden panels: Plastic parts here can break if the wardrobe is frequently reassembled.

Having a small supply of hinges, slides, and cam locks is recommended. This saves waiting time. A tip: When reusing, pay attention to smooth-running guides and clean them regularly, as this greatly improves durability.

How often do you usually open the doors per day? The more frequently, the faster wear can occur.

I open the doors of our Pax wardrobe approximately 5-8 times a day, and the drawers probably just as often. I will keep in mind the advice about clean runners and regular checks. Would you recommend getting the replacement parts directly from Ikea’s regular range? Are there different quality options for spare parts, or just the standard selection?
