Hello everyone,

I’m facing the challenge of choosing a suitable Ikea PAX wardrobe for my rental apartment. I’m especially interested in which models or versions from the PAX series are, in my opinion, best suited for rental properties. Important factors for me are easy assembly and disassembly, so that no major damage occurs during moving, as well as flexibility in dimensions to adapt the wardrobe well to different room sizes. Additionally, I want to make sure the wardrobe doesn’t look too bulky while still offering enough storage space.

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on which PAX models are particularly suitable for rental apartments? Are there any tips on how to assemble or extend the wardrobes in a way that stays simple?

I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences!

Another point I always consider with rental apartments: IKEA offers storage solutions that can be integrated into Pax, such as Komplement drawer systems. This allows you to maximize storage space without having to modify the wardrobe extensively.

Keep in mind that PAX units with glass doors require more effort. For rental apartments, fronts made of wood or melamine-coated panels are more durable and resistant.

A few felt pads on the base can also protect the floor, which helps preserve the landlord’s parquet flooring and avoids problems when moving out.

That’s actually a very good tip that hadn’t occurred to me before.

I’m also interested to know if anyone has experience with the stability of PAX wardrobe frames in rental apartments, especially with frequent assembly and disassembly. Does the frame become vulnerable, or can it remain quite stable if handled carefully?

Also: Are there any recommended products for stabilizing wardrobes that can be installed without drilling?

Regarding stability: The PAX frame is generally sturdy, but like most furniture, its stability decreases somewhat with each assembly and disassembly. Those who move frequently should avoid building the wardrobe too tall to better distribute the weight across multiple contact points.

Regarding fastening: There are non-slip anti-tip restraints that can be attached to the wardrobe and wall using Velcro or rubber straps without drilling. These significantly improve safety but must be approved by the landlord.

I like the PAX models with the white hinged doors, which you can freely combine with handles or handle strips. This also gives the wardrobe a lighter appearance, which is especially nice in smaller rental apartments.

I have also had good experiences with customizing the interior fittings. Easy to install, remove, and adjust – perfect for changing needs.

Here is a summary of the most important points for me so far:

- PAX models in 50 cm (20 inches) and 75 cm (30 inches) widths, up to a maximum height of 201 cm (79 inches)
- Prefer hinged doors, sliding doors if saving space is more important
- Modular design with adjustable shelves and interior fittings
- Felt pads to protect the floor
- Anti-tip safety device without drilling (if allowed)

Do others agree with this, or are there any important points I have missed? I am especially interested if anyone has specific PAX models they find particularly suitable or can suggest alternatives from the IKEA range for rental apartments.
