Chuck63Hello everyone,
I’m facing the challenge of choosing a suitable Ikea PAX wardrobe for my rental apartment. I’m especially interested in which models or versions from the PAX series are, in my opinion, best suited for rental properties. Important factors for me are easy assembly and disassembly, so that no major damage occurs during moving, as well as flexibility in dimensions to adapt the wardrobe well to different room sizes. Additionally, I want to make sure the wardrobe doesn’t look too bulky while still offering enough storage space.
Does anyone have experience or recommendations on which PAX models are particularly suitable for rental apartments? Are there any tips on how to assemble or extend the wardrobes in a way that stays simple?
I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences!

Hey Chuck63,
your question perfectly matches my daily experience! For rental apartments, I really like the PAX combinations with sliding doors because they don’t require much space during assembly and can be quickly taken apart again. Often, the doors are attached with just a few screws, which makes disassembly easier when moving.
I also recommend models with adjustable shelves, as they make the interior flexible and easy to adapt to changing needs.
Another nice feature is that the PAX series comes in narrow (50cm (20 inches)) and wide (100cm (40 inches)) modules. The narrow models, in particular, don’t look too dominant in small rental apartments.
A small tip: don’t build too high, so the wardrobe stays more stable and easier to transport. 😉

They offer very flexible organization options and are easier to adapt to different room layouts during moves compared to fixed sliding door systems.
Additionally, I recommend limiting the height to a maximum of 201 cm (79 inches) when purchasing, as the 236 cm (93 inches) tall models offer more storage space but are more difficult to transport and assemble, especially in narrow staircases.
