I’m about to buy the Ikea PAX wardrobe and plan to store not only clothes but also some quite heavy items inside. My question is: From your experience, which PAX drawers are best suited to sustainably carry heavy loads without the drawer sides bending or the runners wearing out quickly? I’m particularly interested in specific recommendations regarding materials, depth, and load capacity, as I don’t want to order the standard drawers blindly. Are there any special versions or additional reinforcements you would recommend?

The standard PAX drawers are designed for typical household items but may not handle very heavy loads easily. If you plan to store many heavy objects, I recommend PAX drawers with metal side panels, such as the Maximera metal drawers. Thank you for the detailed explanation and the valid follow-up question! The plan is to load individual drawers with up to 20 kg (44 lbs), mainly with tools and electronic accessories. Books less so, but heavy cables, power supplies, and small devices are definitely included.

So far, I have focused on the MAXIMERA drawers, but the 15 kg (33 lbs) limit has made me somewhat uncertain. Is it possible to exceed this limit in practice, or should I rather look for reinforcements?

I have also noticed that there are different installation sizes available – do wider drawers help with load distribution, or do they not affect the weight capacity?
