Hello everyone,
I am planning to replace the doors of my Ikea Pax wardrobe and want to choose a model that is as simple and straightforward as possible, allowing for an easy replacement without much effort.
Therefore, my question is: Which Ikea Pax doors are generally the easiest to replace without having to completely redo the entire track system or hinges?
I am particularly interested in door models that can be easily removed and reattached, or where you can just swap out the door panel without a lot of extra work. It would also be helpful if you could share your experiences with common types such as folding doors, sliding doors, or hinged doors— which ones are the most hassle-free?
Thanks for your tips and advice!

The easiest doors to replace are the hinged doors with standard hinges.I agree, but I want to go into more detail because the topic is somewhat more complex than it seems.
Basically, there are the following types of Ikea Pax doors that have become common on the market:
- Hinged doors (usually with internal hinges and clip mechanism)
- Folding doors (folded flap doors, usually on guide rails)
- Sliding doors (glide on tracks)
Hinged doors are definitely the easiest to replace since the hinges are standardized. You can simply remove the door by lifting it off the clips at the top. Most newer versions also use this system. For folding doors, replacement is only easy if you buy the complete folding door modules, since the individual panels are firmly connected and use complex hinges.
With sliding doors, it gets more complicated because the door panels run in tracks, and the guide rails usually have to match the door. A simple door panel replacement is hardly possible here unless you take the entire door element including the tracks.
So if you’re looking for simple DIY doors to replace yourself, the classic hinged doors from Pax are especially recommended. A small tip: if you want natural wood or decorative fronts, which are often heavier, make sure the hinges and the frame profile can support the weight.
If you need more info: What cabinet width do you have, and which types of doors does your model use? That helps with more precise recommendations.

A few months ago, I replaced my own Pax hinged doors – it was really easy, almost like a plug-and-play connection. You don’t need any special tools, just a quiet moment and a bit of patience when hanging them.
I found folding doors annoying in comparison; assembling and disassembling took me hours, and without clear instructions, it’s easy to get frustrated 😅
A quick tip: Before you order, double-check the exact model number of your doors and download the installation manual. It often explains exactly how to hang the doors.
Good luck, you can do it!
