memehauHello everyone,
I recently decided to assemble an IKEA Platsa shelving unit and encountered some challenges along the way. I’m interested in hearing which components you find the most demanding when building the IKEA Platsa. I don’t just mean the typical screws or dowels, but also special connectors, hinges, panel elements, or the assembly of the modular parts.
My main goal is to identify the critical areas where extra care is needed or where mistakes frequently occur. Which parts have you found tricky, whether due to handling, fit accuracy, or the assembly instructions? I look forward to your insights and experiences!

In my opinion, the hinges for doors and flap doors are the most critical components in Platsa. They require precise alignment because even slight deviations can affect both functionality and appearance. Although the manual mentions adjustment, in practice, the installation should be carried out very carefully.
Furthermore, the connectors that secure the individual modules to each other are more complex than they initially seem. They need to safely bear loads while still being easy to assemble. Mistakes here can lead to instability.
I recommend reviewing the instructions for these components multiple times and taking your time, rather than rushing.

If they are not positioned precisely, the shelf quickly looks cheap and its stability is compromised.
Moreover, the tolerances in the plastic connectors are often underestimated. These can be more fragile than expected, which unnecessarily complicates the entire assembly. Unfortunately, the installation manual doesn’t address this issue adequately.
As an addition: The back panels should not be underestimated, especially the thin chipboards, which not only provide stabilization but also ensure the final shape of the shelf. If these are not mounted properly, deformations or an unstable construction may occur.
Similarly, care is required when screwing inside the modules—especially with the furniture connectors (so-called cam locks). These connection mechanisms offer an efficient solution but are not very forgiving of incorrect assembly. Switching or improper placement can be difficult to fix later.
My tip: Before screwing, assemble all parts temporarily and proceed with caution.
