Hello everyone, I’m currently considering which balcony box would best fit into a KALLAX shelf compartment. The compartment measures 33x33 cm (13x13 inches), and I’m looking for something weather-resistant since the box will be placed outside on my balcony. It’s important to me that the box is not only sturdy but also water-repellent because it will hold sunflowers and herbs, which need to be watered thoroughly from time to time. Does anyone have experience with suitable containers or advice on what to look for when choosing one? Thanks in advance for your help!

That sounds interesting, thanks! What kind of adhesive is suitable for this? I don’t want it to come off again when exposed to moisture or even cause mold growth. Does anyone have recommendations? And do you have experience whether it will hold permanently on plastic?

Good question! For applications like this, I recommend silicone-based adhesives or special outdoor construction adhesives. These are waterproof and flexible, which is important for temperature changes. It is essential that the surfaces are clean and dry before bonding. For plastics, you should definitely use an adhesive specifically designed for this material to ensure lasting adhesion.

Exactly that! I used the same – it holds strong, even with rain and frost. If you want, you can apply a clear coat over it beforehand to keep everything looking good even longer. You’ve got this!

Great, thanks for all your helpful tips! I now have a clearer idea of what’s possible. I’ll look into Elho Corsica balcony planters and maybe add a protective coating. Thanks also for the ideas on decoration and adhesives—I’ll give those a try. If anyone has more recent experience or knows of brands made specifically for balconies with limited space, please share! 🙂
