Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes bed with integrated drawers and plan to use them for storing clothes as well as somewhat heavier items like tools and books. I have a question: what is the average weight capacity of the individual drawers in the BRIMNES system?

It would be very helpful if someone has experience or even exact information about the approved load limits, perhaps based on IKEA data sheets or personal testing.

My main concern is to know the maximum load without damaging the drawers or causing wear on the runners. Thanks in advance for your support!

I see a clear message here: the drawers are not designed for lead weights.

Jokes aside, 10-15 kg (22-33 lbs) sounds realistic and reasonable; this is also common for most Ikea furniture.

So anyone who fills their Brimnes to the max should keep in mind that it’s not meant to be a storage unit for fitness weights.

That’s why it’s almost a relief if you’re at least using it for books, clothes, or occasionally a toolbox – then it holds up really well. I would keep it easygoing and relaxed, so the piece won’t develop long-term stress marks.

Regarding the technical aspect, I would like to add: The drawers of the BRIMNES system use standard metal drawer slides, which typically support loads of up to about 15 kg (33 lbs) when properly installed.

However, the lifespan of the slides is significantly reduced if they are regularly overloaded. Over time, wear and tear may become noticeable, which can also decrease their load capacity.

A tip: If you store heavy items, try to ensure an even weight distribution and keep the drawers clean to avoid friction or jamming.

For heavy loads over 15 kg (33 lbs), a separate storage or shelving system is recommended.
